Munday Terminates Opposition at Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series

Posted at 10:44 2009-03-14
Day 6 of the Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series saw two events take place in the Crown Poker Room kicking off with the first flight of Event 7: $340 No Limit Hold’em just after midday, followed by the conclusion of Event 6: $340 Terminator.

The usual crew were out in force with Steve Topakas, Marc Desanges, Peter Saward, Mat Hawker, Trung Tran, Andrew Scott, Peter Ling and Raemin Alexander all being joined by Martin Harvey, Kevin Khouiss and David Morton.

With a 15,000-chip starting bank and 131 runners in this day 1 flight 1 field, twelve levels would see 31 players remaining with some well known Crown frequenters making it through including Carey Ciuro, Andrew Oataway, Andrew Scott and Martin Harvey. With flight 2 expected to eclipse the 220 player mark a first prize of around $20,000 will be expected come Sunday when both fields reunite.

As Event 7 wrapped, the continuation of Event 6 was just beginning with 17 players taking to the felt to battle it out to see who would be crowned ‘the Terminator’.

PokerStars pro Joe Hachem continued his good run but was unable to make a repeat final table performance bowing out in 16th place, but it would be local Koun Chhoy who registered his third cash from as many events falling in 7th place.

Chris Barratt rode his short stack all the way to heads up play after eventually taking care of Peng Khoo after doubling with 5-5 vs 8-8 and then finally {Ah}{Ad} against Khoo’s {Ks}{9c} in a battle of the blinds.

Barratt and David Munday traded blows until a massive hand threw the ball into Munday’s court. With all the money going in on a board reading {Qd}{7h}{4s}{Jh} it would be Barratt’s {Qs}{Js} holding strong against Munday’s {Kh}{Qh}. However the river would bring one of the twelve outs in the deck of Munday landing the {4h} to give him a massive chip lead.

Munday would finish off Barratt calling his all in with A-8 against Barratt’s A-3; and when the board fell down King-high Munday would be crowned champion of Event 6 and pocket a handy $12,544 after besting a field of 256 players.

Final Table Results:
1st – David Munday ($12,544)
2nd – Chris Barratt ($8,858)
3rd – Peng Khoo ($5,939)
4th – Mark Bradley ($4,608)
5th – Nigel Jacotine ($3,584)
6th – Ben Savage ($2,560)
7th – Koun Chhoy ($1,762)
8th – Archie Davis ($1,280)
