New Zealand Champ Set To Join Wellington Poker Championships

Posted at 23:02 2009-08-07
Soren Eriksen, 2009 New Zealand Poker Championship winner, is confirmed to play at this weekend’s Wellington Championships held at Christchurch Casino.

Eriksen’s return to this weekend’s provincial tournament adds a whole new element of competition to the tournament, giving amateur players the opportunity to foot it with the best.

Mick Ryan, Poker Manager at Christchurch Casino, says the players in this weekend’s tournament will learn plenty of tips and tricks from the very skilled Eriksen.

“We’re very excited to have Soren back with us this weekend at Christchurch Casino. Competitors in the Wellington Champs have a great opportunity to learn from, take on and, who knows, maybe even beat the country’s champ – what a finish that would be!” says Ryan.

“Confirmation that Soren will compete is filtering through to players we have registered to play and is being exceptionally well received”, continues Ryan.

“The opportunity to play against such a high calibre poker player is not common at provincial competitions – players are snapping up the last available spots fast”.

This weekend is the inaugural Wellington Champs event. Up to 125 amateur players from throughout New Zealand’s provinces, especially Wellington, will compete for a prize pool of up to $40,000.

Eriksen won the champion title at Christchurch Casino’s New Zealand Poker Championships in April this year, taking home a massive cash prize pool of $100,000 and beating 101 other competitors.

Spectators are welcome to come down to Christchurch Casino over the weekend to enjoy the poker action. The Main Event will be from 1.30pm on Saturday and 2.00pm on Sunday.
