New Zealand Poker Open Hits SKYCITY Auckland in June

Posted at 00:15 2010-05-23

Last year’s SKYCITY New Zealand Poker Open was a huge success with thousands of dollars given away, and now it’s back again with the 2010 SKYCITY New Zealand Poker Open expected to be even bigger!

Held in SKYCITY Auckland, the Main Event is already guaranteed to offer NZ$50,000 in prize money. However, tournament organizers are expecting the actual Main Event prize pool to be far higher than this amount.

SKYCITY Auckland’s general manager of casino operations, Ejaaz Dean, spoke about the Main Event’s buy-in, “ Having the SKYCITY New Zealand Poker Open on our 2010 poker calendar allows us to host a broad range of tournaments from the $1,100 NZD buy-ins up to our SKYCITY Festival of Poker in September with a buy-in of $3,250 NZD.  SKYCITY Auckland is New Zealand’s Home of Poker.”

Don’t worry if you can’t afford the $1,100 buy-in because there will be plenty of other cheaper events on the schedule. Event #1 (6-max No-Limit Hold’em), Event #2 (Limit Texas Hold’em), and Event #4 (No-Limit Hold’em) are all $220 to enter, while Event #3 (Pot-Limit Omaha) and Event #5 (Teams Event) have buy-ins of $330 and $550.

Here is the schedule of events for the SKYCITY Poker Open:

Event #1 6-max No-Limit Hold’em – June 1st, 12:30pm
Event #2 Limit Texas Hold’em – June 4th, 7:30pm
Event #3 Pot-Limit Omaha – June 5th, 4:00pm
Event #4 No-Limit Hold’em – June 6th, 7:15pm
New Zealand Poker Open Main Event – June 7th, 12:30pm
Event #5 New Zealand Poker Open Teams Event – June 7th, 12:30pm

There are also going to be lots of satellite events so people can win their way into the tournaments. The satellites start on May 31st and the buy-ins range from $20 to $235.

SKYCITY Auckland has also recently featured some charity events, as 60 firefighters from the Auckland area and the United States came together this week to play in the Sky Tower Firefighter Challenge Poker Tournament. The firefighters played for the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation.

In addition, SKYCITY Auckland also sponsored the Sky Tower Firefighter Challenge. The challenge saw hundreds of firefighters racing up 51 flights of stairs in full gear for another benefit geared towards the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation.
