Paul Volpe Leads as WPT L.A. Poker Classic Reaches Final Table

The final table of the World Poker Tour L.A. Poker Classic Main Event is set and it is the online tournament specialist Paul Volpe who leads the way.

Volpe will begin the six-handed final table armed with a stack of 4,195,000 chips, which is over 700,000 more than his nearest rival Paul Klann (3,375,000). Although nothing is certain in poker, especially poker tournaments, it would take a brave man to bet against a Volpe victory in this event.

Canada-based American Volpe has over $500,000 in live tournament winnings, a large percentage of those winnings came from his 20th place finish in the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event. That particular result bagged Volpe $294,601 in prize money – his largest live cash to date – but if he finishes in the top four places in this tournament he will eclipse that amount. Should Volpe go all the way he would pick up a cheque for a cool $1,004,090.

Those of you who prefer your poker played online will probably be aware of Volpe’s online alias, “paulgees81.” Under this moniker, Volpe has won in excess of $4,100,000 in online poker tournaments and is regarded as one of the very best in the business.

Another online superstar, Toby Lewis, has also reached the final table and he will have a major say in who walks away as the eventual champion. Lewis’ 1,125,000 stack may place him six from six going into the final table, but if anyone can build a stack from 22 big blind it is Lewis. Known as “810ofclubs” in online poker circles, Lewis has almost $2,700,000 in online tournament winnings and has a European Poker Tour title to his name.

Play resumes at 16:00 Pacific time and will continue until just one player has won all of the chips in play. Who will that player be? Tune in tomorrow to find out.
