Dates have been confirmed with the event kicking off on Thursday 24 August with a $120 charity tournament to raise money for Camp Quality. Other tournaments include daily satellites from as little as $70, Holdem, Omaha and Stud Poker cash tournaments plus the two day $1,650 Main Event beginning Saturday 2 September with a guaranteed $100,000 first prize and a world-class two day structure to prepare players for the 2007 Aussie Millions Main Event.

Specialty Cash Games
A new specialty cash game schedule is now available. The revised line-up includes 5 Card Stud on Mondays and Wednesdays and a variety of Manila games on Saturday nights.

Crown Poker Room Refurbishment
Refurbishment work has begun in the Poker Room and is expected to be complete by mid-August. Improvements will include a new buy-in booth, high limit area and an electronic list and seating system. During this time the room will remain open with 23 tables offering all regular tournaments and most cash games. Additional tables offering Holdem cash games will also be available from midday Thursday to Sunday in a new Poker Pit on Level 1. As a special offer for tournament players during the refurbishment, Crown has reduced the cost of its Sunday tournament from $65 to $60.

2. Star City Launches $250 Tournament Series
Sydney poker players got a long-term wish granted recently when Star City launched their first ever tournament series. Taking place on every Monday in July, the first event was held on July 10 with the field reaching the maximum of 132 players and creating a prizepool of $30,000. Javier from Star City collected the first place prize of $10,200 and Michael J came second for $6,000.

The next tournament is on Monday July 17 at 12:15pm, cost is $250 to enter with 132 players maximum. Start bank is 1,500 in chips, and blinds start at 25/25 with 20 minute levels, although Star City has responded to players and will increase selected levels to 30 minutes, with more permanent changes to follow.

To register, you need to have a Total Star Rewards card and must pay at the cage at least 30 minutes before the tournament commences. There are over 100 entrants registered for this Monday’s event, and it is expected to sell out very soon so make sure you get in early.

3. WSOP 2006 – The PokerNetwork Roundup
The Australian assault on the WSOP has begun. Reigning champion Joe Hachem came close to taking home the first Aussie bracelet of the World Series, he finished runner up to Dutch Boyd in Event #5 $2,500 No-Limit Hold’Em Shorthanded, and cashed again in Event #18 $2,000 Pot-Limit Hold’Em. If you haven’t heard by now, Mark Vos (pokerbok on PNW) captured his first WSOP bracelet the next day, winning Event #6 $2,000 No-Limit Hold’Em, and took home just over $800,000 in prizemoney. Amazingly, Jeff Lisandro made it three Aussies in three consecutive final tables the day after when he took ninth in Event #7 $3,000 Limit Hold’Em.

Mick Guttman got off to a flyer, he was second in Event #16 $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha (Gary Benson chopped on the edge of the payouts and Arul Thillai came 18th), and just finished third in Event #21 $2,500 No-Limit Hold’Em Shorthanded. Sarah Bilney is amongst the leaders for the most cashes at this year’s WSOP with three, her best performance was a 12th place in Event #13 $2,500 No-Limit Hold’Em for $50,439 in prizemoney. Sam Khouiss also joined the list of cashes, making the money in Event #22 No-Limit Hold’Em.

PokerNetwork congratulates all the Aussies (and adopted Aussies) on their results at the WSOP so far, and wishes everyone good luck for the events to come. To leave your congratulations and keep up to date with how the Aussies are doing, make sure you check the PokerNetwork Noticeboard.

4. Yet Another Australian Joins Team PokerNews
In the very last Team PokerNews freeroll at Pacific Poker, Andrew Lindsay (infamously known as Bugsy) defeated a remarkably small field of 16 players to capture the last $12,000 WSOP package on offer. Andrew becomes the sixth Australian to join Team PokerNews alongside Vince Moro, Jonny Vincent, Damien Carroll, Joey Chang and Nathan Johnstone. Remarkably, Australians captured almost 30% of the Team PokerNews spots up for grabs, a huge feat considering the size and diversity of the fields. PokerNetwork will be following the progress of all our Aussie qualifiers so stay tuned to find out how they perform in the Main Event.
