December was a huge month on the local poker calendar, highlighted by the PokerStars.net APPT Grand Final in Sydney. There were many notable performances by Australian players which were worthy of nomination for our Player of the Month awards; some from previous 2009 winners which ruled them illegible as you can only win an award once in the calendar year.
With that disclaimer out of the way, we’re pleased to announce the PokerNetwork Players of the Month for December.
Player of The Month – Aaron Benton
One of the easier decisions for this award, as the PokerStars.net APPT Sydney Main Event title once again remained on home soil with Aaron Benton capturing the coveted crown and a whopping $594,000 in prize money. Aaron has showed himself to be a strong competitor, honing his skills online as well as being a regular on the Asian poker circuit last year.
Aaron has been unlucky not to win this award previously after a massive online result in the FTOPS Main Event in May earlier this year. However he has firmly planted himself in Australian poker history with this result and the PokerNetwork Player of the Month award for December.
Young Gun of The Month – Tom Grigg
The Young Gun of the Month for December has been awarded to Tom Grigg for his very impressive performances at the APPT Sydney Championships.
Tom bagged a trophy and nearly $35,000 in prize money when he was victorious in the $1,650 Semi-Shootout Bounty Event. He then continued his good form, going on to reach the final table in the APPT Sydney Main Event, eventually bowing out in 5th place to add another $130,680 in cash.
Not a bad month for a new player on the scene, and we look forward to seeing more of Tom in the future!
