"PokerNetwork Players of the Month - January"
February 04, 2010

The Australian summer has brought a sweltering heat and a wave of players to our fine shores for the biggest poker tournament in the Southern Hemisphere – the 2010 Aussie Millions.

What a wonderful two and a half weeks of poker action we witnessed with a host of memorable performances from PokerNetwork.com players. While a few new names rose to the surface for the first time, we were blessed with deep runs and title wins by many well-known local and International players.

Additionally, the performances on the live felt somewhat overshadowed some remarkable efforts in the online poker world with several Australian players achieving the coveted “Triple Crown” in recent months.

Player of The Month – Tyron Krost

Tyron Krost

Without a doubt the standout performance of the year so far is the successful run of Tyron Krost who secured the Aussie Millions Main Event title and a whopping $2 million in prize money. Amazingly Tyron was one of the shortest stacks in the field entering Day 2 play but surged through to enter the final table in second chip position.

Tyron didn’t let the big name pros intimidate him and played a great final table to keep the Aussie Millions Championship on home soil for another year. We congratulate Tyron on his incredible achievement and award him the PokerNetwork Player of the Month award for January.

Tyron's victory also sees him jump out to an early lead in the PokerNetwork Player of the Year race for 2010. There's a huge prize package up for grabs for the winners, with thanks to Pocket Aces Over Kings.

Young Gun of The Month – Jonathan “xMONSTERxDONG” Karamalikis

Jonathan Karamalikis

One of the biggest talking points of the Aussie Millions was with the $100,000 Challenge and the run of a young gun from Adelaide who was leading the best in the world into the final table of the biggest buy-in tournament in the world. Sadly it wasn’t to be that day, but Jonathan Karamalikis still had a hugely successful Aussie Millions campaign. His victory in the $1,650 Bounty Feature Event was a highlight as Jonathan picked up $122,700 and a much overdue live trophy. Jonathan also finished in 14th place in the $1,100 No Limit Event and collected another US$62,000 in online winnings during the month, including 4th place in the weekly Sunday Brawl at Full Tilt.

A huge month for the “Dong” as he becomes PokerNetwork’s Young Gun for the Month – the second time he has received such an award.

Congratulations to Tyron and Jonathan!
