It's that time of the year where the players from all around the world descend on the sunny shores of Las Vegas, Nevada for the Mecca of tournament poker – the World Series of Poker.
Australia has seen some brilliant performances with players proving to the world that we are the real deal and able to compete on an international stage.
While the online scene has been a little quieter recently, there have also been some tremendous results with some of the lesser known online players rising to the challenge.
PokerNetwork continues to recognize the achievements of our community with the Players of the Month awards for June.
Player of The Month – Jeff Lisandro
One of the greatest achievements ever seen in poker – not just for Australia but on an International level – saw Jeff Lisandro as the stand out player of the 2009 World Series of Poker.
Jeff won not one, not two, but an incredible three WSOP bracelets, all in Stud disciplines, as well as another three deep cashes to easily claim the WSOP Player of the Year title – the first Australian to do so.
This inaugural Australian Hall of Fame member has done it all in the game and now with four WSOP bracelets and over US$4 million in career prize money, Jeff is among the elite players in the game. To add to the list, this is now the third time Jeff has won the PokerNetwork Player of the Month award.
Congratulations once again to Jeff on a tremendous WSOP result from all at PokerNetwork.
Young Gun of The Month – Sean Keeton
The PokerNetwork Young Gun of the Month award for June goes to Sean Keeton for his tremendous success at the World Series of Poker. Sean took his seat with 927 of the world’s best players in one of the last WSOP events of the series, the $5,000 No Limit Hold’em Six-Handed event. Three days later and Sean had overcome all but three of them to ultimately be eliminated in 4th place.
While obviously disappointed to get so close to the bracelet, Sean will be comforted by a whopping US$269,983 in prize money for his awesome performance. Sean has two other WSOP cashes to his name, as well as an Aussie Millions final table, and will be a player to watch in Crown in the future!
