It’s been another huge month for Australians in the world of poker. October was highlighted by the PokerNews Cup with a full week of events and a huge $800,000 Main Event prize pool. We also saw a massive month for Australians in the online world, with several of our previous young guns recording impressive results once again. Our Player of The Month guidelines stipulate that players may only receive one POTM award each year, so we look to crown two new award winners for October.
Player of The Month – Nick Kaselias
Nick Kaselias captured the attention of the Australian poker industry when he overcame a huge field of 410 players to take down the trophy in the Main Event of the 2008 PokerNews Cup held at Crown Casino this October.
“Iraqi Nick” ensured the trophy stayed down under as he overcame fierce Danish opponent Kenneth Damm to capture the title and the first place prize of $250,000, much to the delight of his friends on the rail.
This is Nick’s greatest win and secures him the PokerNetwork Player of The Month award for October.
Young Gun of The Month – David Lee
Melbourne based David Lee receives the award for Young Gun of The Month for October thanks to his impressive result at the PokerNews Cup. After a tremendous Main Event, David finished in 3rd place and netted a tidy $73,100 in prize money.
This continues an excellent year for David after he captured a title in the $1,100 Turbo No Limit Hold’em Event at this year’s Aussie Millions on January for another $70k score.
These results now see David sit firmly in the top 10 of the PokerNetwork Australasian Rankings Leaderboard with David looking for strong results in Perth and Sydney to cap off a tremendous year. A worthy winner of the PokerNetwork Young Gun of The Month for October and a player to watch out for at the tables in the future!
