It’s been a very busy month on the Australian poker scene as October has seen ANZPT events in Melbourne and also Darwin for the very first time, while the online poker scene has again seen the Aussie young guns shine with some impressive results.
PokerNetwork continues to recognize the achievements of players in our community with the PokerNetwork Player of the Month awards for October.
After a breakthrough victory in the PokerStars.net APPT Auckland Main Event with NZ$170,000, Danny “Brotha D” Leaoasavaii jumped into the headlines as the “Godfather of New Zealand Hip Hop” proved that he was the real deal on the poker felt. However Brotha D hadn’t finished just yet.
With a renewed confidence and padded bankroll, Brotha D make the trek north to buy into the PokerStars.net ANZPT Darwin Main Event. After day one, Brotha D was well placed, and he decided to spend some downtime by jumping into one of the $550 No Limit Holdem side events. In a statement of things to come, Brotha D took down the event for around $12,000.
He carried that confidence back to the Main Event on day two and three, where we picked up some big cards and big pots to enter the final day of play with a top three chip stack. From there, Brotha D took control and eventually was able to cap off an amazing six weeks of poker with his third trophy and another $57,000 in prize money.
Brotha D became the first player to ever win APPT and ANZPT titles, and the first non-Australian to win an ANZPT event. To cap it off, he receives the honour of the PokerNetwork Player of the Month.
Daniel Neilson has had a remarkable year with a string of final table results all around the country, but the icing on the cake was his breakthrough victory in the Western Poker Classic during October. Daniel led from coast to coast as he carried a big chip lead into the final table and was able to hang on to claim his first major live title and $75,000.
Daniel’s form also carried him to another win in a $550 No Limit Holdem Turbo event at the recent ANZPT Darwin series. An incredible month in an amazing year, as we’re proud to recognize Daniel with the Young Gun of the Month award.
Congratulations to both Brotha D and Daniel!
With his incredible month, Daniel Neilson has extended his lead in the 2010 PokerNetwork Player of the Year award. He now has amassed more PAR points during the year than anyone else in the history of the award.
West Australian Dale Marsland has jumped into second place with a strong showing in the Western Poker Classic, while Ricky Kroesen hangs onto third.
The rest of the top ten remains largely unchanged with Tony Hachem (14th), Brotha D (19th), Ben Savage (20th) and Jie Gao (44th) the recent movers.
The winner of the 2010 PokerNetwork Player of the Year will receive a custom-built poker table and chip set with thanks to our friends at Pocket Aces Over Kings.
