Day 2 of the PokerNews Cup began with Event 1 of the Morning Series; $120 No Limit Holdem. Players that reach the final table earn points with the top ten point-getters playing off for a Main Event seat.
The early start didn’t affect the numbers as 97 players were out of bed early for the 10am start. With a strong field it would be Crown regular Ken Eastwood emerging as the champion outlasting the field to take home $2,183 in prize money and 6 points towards the morning series final table. The final results were as follows:
1st Ken Eastwood - $2,183
2nd Ashish Gupta - $1,571
3rd Roger Codeca - $1,222
4th Justin Daniel - $873
5th William Yih - $698
6th George Cotaidis - $611
7th Martin Harvey - $524
8th Patrick Lamaster - $437
9th Roy Vandersluis - $349
10th Ian Schoots - $262
Event #3: $240 Pot Limit Omaha with $100 rebuys kicked off at night with an all star field including Jamie Pickering, Jimmy Siu, Mark Vos, Van Marcus, Julian Powell, Grame “Kiwi G” Putt and Sam Khouiss.
Each player started with 1,500 in chips and were able to rebuy whenever they fell below 1,500 in chips chips. For each $100 rebuy the players would receive 1,000 in chips and also be allowed to double rebuy.
With rebuys being allowed for the first three levels we encountered plenty of action. One table in particular was in for a total of $8,600 in rebuys and included the likes of Sam Khouiss, Mark Vos, Harris Pavlou and Sam Youssef with the final tally of 547 rebuys leading to a prizepool of $73,900.
96 players would begin this event but it would be Roy Bhasin finishing the day as the chip leader with the final table of nine being set in the early hours of the morning. Following his victory in $5,200 Pot Limit Omaha event during the Victorian Poker Championships, Bhasin will be looking to repeat as he holds 30 percent of the chips in play.
