PokerNews Cup Championships Day 3 - Pickering Collects PLO Trophy!

Day 3 of the PokerNews Cup was a busy one, with the day starting at 10am for the second event of the morning series with another good turnout for the $120 Pot Limit Omaha event. We’ll have the results of this event as soon as they come to hand.
The feature event of the day was the $10,200 High Stakes H.O.R.S.E. Event which kicked off at 12:30pm. Perhaps a little surprisingly, only six players fronted for this event which would have to be a little disappointing when you compare it to the hype that surrounded the equivalent “Bad Boys Invitational” event last year.
The entrants were Van Marcus, Billy “The Croc” Argyros, Tony G, Mark Vos, Joe Hachem and James “Andy McLEOD” Obst – the online phenom and PokerNetwork Young Gun of the Month who was making his Australian live poker debut in this event.
Hachem was first to go, followed by Obst and when Vos was eliminated in 4th place, the remaining three players decided to chop up the prize money according to chip counts in rather anticlimactic fashion. Tony G held the chip lead and took home the largest share of the pie with $26,000.
Meanwhile the final table of Event 3: $240 Pot Limit Omaha with Rebuys took place on the feature table of the Crown Poker Room as Roy Bhasin brought a commanding chip lead as was looking for a coast-to-coast victory to add to the PLO trophy he won at the Victorian Championships in August. However it wasn’t to be for Bhasin as he bowed out in 4th place and in the end the experience of Jamie Pickering shone through. He had some luck but managed to eliminate five of his final table opponents, and overcame James Kronos in the heads up battle to capture the trophy.
Here are the final table results:
1st Jamie Pickering - $22,170
2nd James Kronos - $14,780
3rd Con Tsapkounis - $10,346
4th Roy Bhasin - $7,390
5th Koray Turker - $5,912
6th Abel Cabrera - $4,434
7th Paul Triandifillou - $3,695
8th Anthony McNamara - $2,956
9th Manny Rodrigues - $2,217
The final event of the day was Event 4 of the PokerNews Cup Championships with 77 players hitting the felt for the $550 H.O.R.S.E event. The field was a solid one full of well known players including Peter Aristidou, Andrew Demetriou, Bruno Portaro, John Dalessandri, Mitchell Carle, Sam Khouiss, Graeme Putt, Steve Topakas and David Morton, as well as Hachem, Marcus, Obst and Argyros who were all fronting for their second event of the day.
Play proceeded until the final table of eight was set at around 2am with Sean Arazi taking the chip lead through to tomorrow’s final table:
Sean Arazi - 130,500 Nick George - 83,000 Abel Cabrera - 64,000 Steve Topakas - 56,500 Andrew Demetriou - 43,000 Karib Karib - 39,500 Graeme 'Kiwi G' Putt - 39,500 Kerry Stead - 20,000
The final table action will begin from 4pm tomorrow with all live coverage being found at www.pokernews.com under the Live Reporting tab at the top of the screen. Also tomorrow evening is the highly anticipated Tony G Celebrity Bounty Event which should bring a lot of fun and excitement!
