Posted at 12:32 2008-10-19
The second flight of the PokerNews Cup Main event saw 239 players fork out $2,200 for their crack at the quarter of a million first place prize. Once again we were treated to a raft of big name players including Lee “Final Table” Nelson, Gareth Edwards, Mark Vos, Van Marcus, Jay Kinkade, Celina Lin, Tony Dunst and defending champion Dory Zayneh.
Zayneh got out to an early lead and seemed unstoppable, having acculated close to 150,000 chips by the dinner break. However in the end Sydney-sider Sam Sayed would bag up the most chips on the day with nearly 175,000.
The top ten chip counts were as follows:
Sam Sayed - 174,200
Dory Zayneh - 151,000
Luke Abolins - 131,300
Ali Khalil - 130,300
Marc Des Anges - 129,600
Johnny Huynh - 125,500
David Gorr - 124,900
George Cotaidis - 120,600
Andrew Demetriou - 120,400
Minh Nguyen - 118,900
In all 76 players would make it through the day, to join the 47 survivors from Day 1a, as the final 123 players come together in the Crown Poker Room for the first time. 83 will go home empty-handed while the rest will collect their share of the prize pool.
All the action kicks off at 12:10pm local time with play set to continue until we reach a final table. Check out the live coverage from the PokerNews website at www.pokernews.com under the Live Reporting tab at the top of the screen.
