The final stop of the eighth season of the PokerStars European Poker Tour is currently taking place in Monaco, the Grand Final, and already the PokerStars management have announced the schedule for Season 9.
Season 8 boasted no fewer than 13 stops and many felt that this was too much, especially in today's financial climate, so there will be fewer Main Events in the upcoming season; seven European stops and the PCA. Not only will there be fewer destinations to travel to but when players get there they will be able to compete in tournaments for a two week period because the EPT is going to partner many of the regional tours such as the UK & Ireland Poker Tour and the Estrellas Poker Tour.
Along with fewer but longer stops, there will also be a €10,000 championship series and that will include a €10,000 heads-up event in Barcelona, a €10,000 8-Game championship and a €10,000 Pot Limit Omaha championship! Plus to kick off EPT Barcelona there will be a special televised tournament with a buy-in of €50,000!
Edgar Stuchly, President of the EPT, is eager for the ninth season to get going and is looking forward to it being better than ever before. "We looked at every EPT season up until now and asked ourselves how we could make the tour even better for the players. In the end, every change comes down to making this a better tour for the people who make this tour what it is: our players."
The Live Poker Specialist of the EPT, Neil Johnson was equally as excited about Season saying, "We have had a lot of fun working with our players and our tournament staff to create some of the most exciting poker tournaments in the world. With all the incredible improvements coming to the tour, many of them created from the player suggestions, EPT 9 will solidify us as the can't-miss destination for European poker."
