PokerStars EPT Freezes Out Competition with New "Snowfest" Event

Posted at 13:10 2009-11-06
PokerStars continue to set the world standard in live poker tournaments as CEO of PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) John Duthie announced the second half of its Season 6 schedule this week.

Having secured the title of the world’s largest poker tour (based on players and prize pools), the EPT has a new addition to its calendar – the PokerStars ‘EPT Snowfest’ event at the Saalbach-Hinterglemm Ski Resort in Austria.

From March 21 – 26 2010, poker players from around the world will be given the chance to test their skills on the felt and on the snowfields. PokerStars qualifiers will be given incredible added value with accommodation at the luxurious Alpine Palace Hotel, bus transfers to and from Salzburg Airport and a six-day ski package which includes lift passes and equipment hire.

For Duthie and the EPT, it’s all about being bigger and better with more on offer for their players. “There has been huge enthusiasm for the new EPT schedule and also for the bigger ‘Festivals of Poker,’ like the one we held in London and will be holding at the [PokerStars Caribbean Adventure], San Remo and Monte Carlo events,” he said.

“The spectacular success of the EPT London Poker Festival a few weeks ago shows that players really relish the chance to play more side events, with a variety of games and buy-ins. We had huge names entering – and winning – these events which created massive interest throughout the week. With 730 players, the [EPT London] Main Event broke the record for the biggest poker tournament ever held in the UK.”

EPT Season 5 saw 7,901 players from 97 countries around the world participating in 11 events, generating an overall prize pool close to EUR €55,000,000. Those records are set to be shattered with Season 6 hosting 13 events across Europe, culminating in the EUR €10,600 EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo.
