PokerStars Expands To Russia

Posted at 23:58 2008-12-04
PokerStars and its sponsored series of worldwide regional live poker tours, they have upped the ante with the announcement of the Russian Poker Tour (RPT). It has announced two new venues to target one of poker’s fastest emerging markets.

The inaugural RPT event will be held on January 25 – February 1, 2009 in the Russian city St Petersburg with a $5,000 buy-in. Only a few weeks after that event, the RPT will head to Moscow on February 22-28, 2009 with a serious buy in of $10,000.

PokerStars will be obviously heavily promoting its two Russian Team PokerStars members in Alex Kravchenko and Ivan Demidov. Kravchenko rose to prominence with his WSOP bracelet and 4th place finish in the Main Event in 2007, while Demidov came within a whisker of an unfathomable double by finishing 2nd in the WSOP Main Event and 3rd in the WSOP Europe Main Event in the very same year. These players are expected to attract many new Russian players to the game while other PokerStars sponsored players are also expected to be making the trip over to Russia.

Satellites are already running on PokerStars for first Russian Poker Tour stop in St Petersburg with buy ins starting as low as $2.22 or 111 Frequent Player Points (FPPs). These satellites will run up until December 30, 2008 with final packages consisting of buy in, accommodation and expense allowance worth $8,000.
