PokerStars Macau Returns To The Grand Waldo

Pokerstars Macau is the home of live Pokerstars.com events in the gambling mecca that is Macau. The online giant has named the Grand Waldo Entertainment Complex as their new home. Casino Grand Lisboa has housed the events since 2009 but the end of that contract signalled a return to the previous home at the Grand Waldo.

Pokerstars Danny McDonagh, Director of Live Operations for Asia-Pacific said, “This is where poker began in Asia, and the players can expect a lot more this time around. The entire Grand Waldo complex has been getting a make-over since we were last here. PokerStars Macau will run cash games in the Grand Waldo Casino and the new conference and exhibition center is an ideal area for major poker tournaments. It's going to give us new opportunities for enhancing the poker-playing experience."

There are four events on the schedule for the rest of the year beginning in June with the HKD$3 million guarantee Macau Poker Cup Red Dragon. The event features, amongst others, a HKD$11,000 buy-in Main Event; to which satellites will be running soon on Pokerstars.

The rest of the schedule also looks exciting the highlight being the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Season 6 leg which will be a HKD$30,000 event taking place during the Asia Championship Of Poker (ACOP), which itself will feature a HKD$100,000 main event with a whopping HKD$10,000,000 guaranteed prize pool. This event and the surrounding cash games were juicy enough to draw none other than Phil Ivey out of his self-imposed poker exile last year.

Players love added value and the ACOP Platinum Series will have events during the June, July and September stops and the top 10 players in each of these tournaments will play off for a HKD$100,000 main event seat during the ACOP.

Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang, who recently attended ANZPT Perth, has some fantastic personal memories of the casino: "This was where I made my first big final table during APPT in 2008 and also where I met my wife. The Pokerstars Macau tournaments are growing at a ridiculous rate so this is an exciting step to adequately fill the monster fields coming for these events."

Macau attracts so many rich business men, the type that poker players literally scour the world to play. With these exciting developments and the buzz generated we can expect the prize-pools to continue to grow and create huge value for the savvy player.
