PokerStars.net ANZPT Perth Main Event Day 1a: Peter Zaknic Leads

Posted at 16:10 2012-05-03 by Matthew Pitt

The eagerly anticipated PokerStars.net ANZPT Perth Main Event kicked off yesterday at the Burswood Entertainment Complex and by the time registration had officially closed there were 89 runners in the field.

Deb Wyatt and her excellent team guided the players through seven well-structured levels and when the dust had settled on an excellent day of poker just 42 of the starters had chips to bag up with Peter Zaknic bagging up the most; his plastic bag the home to 91,100 chips.

Although Zaknic is not well-known outside of Australia he is a familiar face to the staff at the Burswood casino as he is most certainly a regular in their weekly tournaments, tournaments he reaches the final tables at on a regular basis. According to the PokerStars Blog he doubled up early on with the monster that was king=deuces but then won a large pot at the end of the night with a pair of kings to send Vanda Williams to the rail and leave himself with the biggest stack in the room.

Joining Zaknic on Friday's Day 2 include Luch Monte, Mark Marson, John Corr, Leo Boxell, Ali Ghezelbash, Sabastian Pagana and Tony Tartaglia.

Day 1b is expected to attract between 220 and 250 players so by the time you check back in tomorrow we should have the official payout structure and will know how much money these men and women are playing for.
