Men have traditionally been the dominant gender in the poker industry but times are changing as the interest in our great game from the fairer sex has reached epic proportions of late. A recent poll has shown that the number of female players the world’s biggest tournaments, both online and live, is at an all-time high. I can certainly attest to this after donating half of my stack to the beautiful blonde vixen who sat across from me in the tournament I just busted from, so it is no surprise to see that women now make up almost 25 percent of the poker playing population.
Today, the world’s largest poker school, PokerStars.net, announced that it will be sponsoring the fast growing High Heels Poker Tour (HHPT). The HHPT which kicked off in 2007 was designed to support women who want to become champions in the growing world of poker. Like PokerStars, the HHPT is on a mission to provide the best competitive environment where women can work on their game, develop, continue growing and learning top strategies making them a force to be reckoned with on the felt.
The PokerStars sponsorship includes support for HHPT’s ever-growing list of tournaments. It is a truly worldwide event with the first leg beginning this month at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, New York. After leaving the big apple, the tour heads south to Florida for three spectacular tournaments in Hollywood, Dania and Tampa. These tournaments will see some of the game’s future female poker champions bid for not only a generous prize pool, but great friendships, camaraderie, competition at the tables and memory’s that will last a life time.
“PokerStars has all of the attributes in a online partner that female players crave: an incredible variety of quick, entertaining games that range from low buy in sit and goes and cash games to serious tournament play, all in an environment where women can learn the game, develop their skills, and truly become champions,” said Lauren Failla, founder of the High Heels Poker Tour. “With champions like Vanessa Rousso, Katja Thater, and Vicky Coren, our players have a whole new set of role models to emulate and challenge, online and at the tables.”
“We also look forward to sharing our grand finale $1,000 buy-in ladies event with the HHPT at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January 2010.“
