The 2013 World Championship Of Online Poker (WCOOP) is almost upon us everyone at UK & Ireland PokerNetwork is tingling with excitement and anticipation. Although we will not be playing in any of the events – unless we managed to bink a satellite to one of them – we will be keeping a watchful eye over the progress or players from Australia and New Zealand.
The 2013 WCOOP is the 12th edition of the world’s premier online poker festival and it promises to be the biggest and best yet. In 2002, the WCOOP consisted of nine events that paid out over $730,000 in combined prizes. Fast forward to the present and this year’s WCOOP Main Event carries an $8,000,000 guaranteed prize pool, of which at least $1,250,000 is locked way for the champion!
Running for 21 days from September 8 through to September 29, the 2013 WCOOP features 66 events and guarantees to award no less than $40,000,000 in cash prizes. Last year’s WCOOP planned on paying similar amounts and ended up paying a staggering $55,522,590 instead! We would guess that this year’s WCOOP eclipses that impressive figure.
Although each of the WCOOP events pays its champion a vast sum of money, it is the Main Event that everyone wants to win. Past winners include JC Tran, Carter King, Yengeniy Timoshenko, Tyson Marks, Thomas Pedersen and who could forget last year’s champion Marat “maratik” Sharafutdinov who famously said, “I WONT MILLION” during the deal negotiations.
Below you will find a number of facts, figures and statistics to whet your whistle with! Enjoy.
