Rossiter Becomes the Latest Joe Hachem Deep Stack Champ

Posted at 17:25 2011-11-23

Another Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series Main Event has come to a close as Jeff Rossiter has been crowned champion after four tough days of play in the Crown Poker Room in Melbourne.

It was the eighth instalment of the stalwart tournament series and one which Crown Poker will be very happy with, as a total of 546 entries were made during the unique repechage event. This amount easily trumps the 416 entries which were made in the last JHDSS when Andrew Mellado took down the Main Event.

Of the mammoth starting field, there were only 177 players who returned for Day 2 action, one of which was the namesake of the tournament, Joe Hachem. The Day 2 berth for Hachem makes it the first time he has made a second day in the tournament which bears his name.

Hachem couldn’t manage a deep run as the likes of Jim Sachinidis, Amanda DeCasare, Karl Krautschneider, Billy Jordanou, Julius Colman, Luke Edwards, Ben Savage and 2011 Aussie Millions Main Event Champion David Gorr also fell to the rail throughout the day.

Chris Bonato started Day 2 as the chip leader and would manage to creep into the 45 players who would be guaranteed some cash for their time, as Peter Aristidou, Raemin Alexander, Heath Chick and Jeff Rossiter would also slide into the money.

Of the above players, only Rossiter would stay alive long enough to make a final table as he would be looking to see some more success in Melbourne after finishing 3rd for $700,000 in the Aussie Millions Main Event earlier in the year.

The final table also played host to Billy Sukkar and Peter Mordaunt, both of whom are recognisable around the Crown Poker Room.

By the time play had made it to heads-up, it was only Rossiter and Mordaunt who remained as it would be young vs. old fighting it out for the title.

Mordaunt would be looking to continue to post results which span several years, while Rossiter has proved himself no slouch on the felt with plenty of other results to go along with Aussie Million finish.

In the end it was Rossiter who faired too good for Mordaunt as the victory would be worth an impressive $52,000 plus an Aussie Millions 2012 Main Event seat.
