Saraj Dutt Ends Day 1c As Chip Leader; Leads Overall

Posted at 04:52 2012-05-14 by Matthew Pitt

A total of 149 players turned out for the third flight of the Melbourne Poker Championships Main Event, taking the total number of entrants to an impressive 433. Of those 433 who started the week with hopes of becoming this year's champion only 149 have made it through to Day 2 and they will be lead by Suraj Dutt.

Dutt ended Day 1c with 197,900 chips, enough to see him lead the tournament overall and he is now in pole position to walk away with the title of 2012 Melbourne Poker Championship Main Event Champion after the weekend. Dutt's mammoth stack came into his possession in the last few minutes of the night when he sent fellow big stack Dom Italiano to the rail after the pair got it all in on a jack-high board with Dutt holding a pair of kings.

Dutt will be joined on Day 2 by the likes of Leo Boxell, Jackie Glazier, Grant Levy, former champion Tony Kondevski and reining champion Scotty Peel. One man who will not be there as the tournament nears its finale is Oliver Speidel who busted out for the third time in three days.
