Sean Callander's Round 18 AFL Preview

As promised on this week's episode of the PokerNetwork Sports Betting Show, Sean Callander has his picks for this weekend's AFL action.

Essendon vs. St Kilda (Friday 19:40, Etihad Stadium)

Round 18 kicks-off at Etihad Stadium (bring your bucket & spade) with the Saints taking on Essendon. The Bombers have won the last two over St Kilda mainly through their superior pace but I expect the Saints defence to be at its miserly best tonight. That said, not expecting a huge scoreline so happy to take the + 31.5 (one unit).

Collingwood vs. Carlton (Saturday 14:10, MCG)

My best of the weekend is Collingwood over Carlton at the MCG on Saturday. The average margin in their past 10 meetings is more than seven goals, and with a line of 30.5, I’m confident the Magpies will cover that with ease. Make it a three-unit special.

Sydney vs. Geelong (Saturday 19:10, ANZ Stadium)

It’s been more than four years since Sydney’s last win over Geelong, and that record is unlikely to improve at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night. Neither side is anywhere near full strength so not expecting any surprises. Game total looks to be in the range of 180 points tending to the minus, so keep an eye on the line once it’s released tomorrow.

Western Bulldogs vs. North Melbourne (Sunday 14:10, Etihad Stadium)

The Bulldogs have been in rare form over the past month and won’t be overly troubled by the Kangaroos. Keen on the -33.5 and a game total of +190 points, with the Etihad Stadium surface tending to improve as the weekend progresses.
