Sebastian Selvaggio Leads the Shane Warne Super Stack in Melbourne

Posted at 11:20 2013-05-03 by Matthew Pitt

Day 1a of the Shane Warne Super Stack, has been completed and it is Sebastian Selvaggio who is the man to catch. Selvaggio managed to turn his 25,000 starting stack into a tournament leading 195,900 over the course of twelve 30-minute levels and has now set himself up for a deep run in this popular event.

By the time the Crown Poker Room closed its registration desk there were 162 entries, which is well above previous year’s figures. That impressive number of runners is only going to increase as there are a further two starting days and both are being played to a repechage and single re-entry format, meaning players have six chances to make it through to Day 2.

Sam Higgs is one player who is grateful for this format because he busted not once but twice during the very first level of play! Higgs, who finished fifth in the AUD$5,000 No Limit Hold’em 6-Handed event at the recent World Series of Poker Asia Pacific, will no doubt be back on Day 1b – hopefully not Day 1c!

Joining the chip leader Selvaggio through to Day 2 are the likes of Busra Kaluntakasuwun and her 177,600 stack, a large percentage of which was won when he pair of jacks came from behind to crack a pair of aces. Reigning champion Dean Schneider (108,600) safely navigated his way through to Day 2, while another former champion in the shape of Monica Huynh (47,00) also progressed.
