The sixth edition of the PartyPoker.com Premier League is just around the corner and the excitement is building with each passing day.
Taking place at Apsers Casino between Mar. 17-23 the PartyPoker.com Premier League VI will see 16 of the world’s best players battle it out at the felt in a tournament that costs $125,000 to enter! The 16 players will be split into two groups of eight, who will then play four league matches each. During the league matches players will be awarded with points depending on where they finish, with each point being worth $2,000 in cash.
At the end of the four league game the top three point earners will progress to the final while the fourth and fifth place finishers play a series of heads-up matches to determine who goes through to the eight-handed final table.
As the title of this article suggests, there are six players confirmed to play in the Premier League this year. The first two names revealed were Scott Seiver and Daniel Negreanu. Seiver, who won the Premier League last year, said, “I really enjoyed the interesting format last year and it was great to win. I am looking forward to defending my title.”
Team PokerStars Pro Negreanu was his usual enthusiasric self when he said of the Premier League, “I’m really excited to be back playing the Premier League this year. I love the format and unique events like this are great for poker. I’m honoured to be invited and happily support the event and plan on winning it!”
Also making the trip to the British capital are The Big One for One Drop winner Antonio Esfandiari and 13-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, who should both add some entertainment value to the competition.
Just a couple of hours ago, Phil “The Unabomber” Laak and Tony G also signed on the dotted line and will be gracing London with their presence. Tony G, never one to miss an opportunity to attack Hellmuth said, “I have played every season of the PartyPoker.com Premier League – I would never miss it as it is one of the best events in poker in my eyes and I am going for the win. I am very happy that Phil Hellmuth is back this season, it still wouldn’t surprise me if he pulls out one he knows I am in though, as he said he never wanted to play poker with me again – can you blame him?”
PartyPoker have not released any information on the yet-to-be-unveiled players but PokerNews would expect to see the likes of Vanessa Selbst, Sam Trickett, Daniel Cates, Patrik Antonius and Tom Dwan all of whom competed last year, announced in the coming weeks. Who would you like to see in this year’s PartyPoker.com Premier League?
