SkyCity Darwin Casino has been announced as the eighth and final venue for the second season of the PokerStars Australia and New Zealand Poker Tour.
Tasmania now looms as the final frontier for the ANZPT which has set up shop in all of the mainland states and both territories in Australia.
The Northern Territory will play host to its first ever major poker event between the 25th and 30th October, 2010. It will be the final event of an extended second season. The first season was careful to not overlap with the APPT season, but this year the two circuits will run concurrently.
As usual PokerStars extensive network of qualifying satellite tournaments will be combined with live qualifiers at the various Sky City properties to ensure that a bumper field will contest the inaugural event. There will even be free qualifiers held on PokerStars.net for a fabulous package incorporating a $2,200 main event entry, seven nights’ accommodation at SkyCity Darwin Casino, and some great tourism options in the Top End with $500 travel money.
Skycity Darwin Casino Table Games Manager Olga Hurley said of the tournament, “poker is very popular here in Darwin and we are extremely pleased to be hosting the Territory’s first major poker tournament. I can assure you that all players coming here will love the unique Darwin hospitality.”
ANZPT Commissioner Danny McDonagh added, “I have travelled three times to Darwin and highly recommend players make the trip. Our packages will incorporate fabulous tourism options including tours to renowned Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks and the Territory Wildlife Park. This stop is the perfect example of ANZPT’s desire to link the sport of poker with tourism in both Australia and New Zealand.”
Those who have had the joy of travelling to one of the ANZPT’s existing events will already be aware of the fact that these events are always more than just a poker tournament. With extensive tourism options that include tours and local attractions the ANZPT is a great way to get out and explore some great Australian and NZ destinations.
Defending ANZPT Champion Tony Hachem is currently on top of the ANZPT Player of the Year standings after three events but with so many events still to be run it remains a very open race.
