Steve “Stev0L_” Leonard Finishes Second in Record-Breaking Super Tuesday

It seems like the attendance record for the $1,050 buy-in PokerStars Super Tuesday is broken every week of late, and this week was no different as 614 players bought in. This huge crowd created a $614,000 prize pool and a first place – another record amount – of $116,046.00.

The final 72 places were where the prize money was awarded, so spare a thought for the United Kingdom’s Paul “xxCelticFCxx” Febers who busted in 73rd place. Febers got his 12 big blinds into the middle holding {A-Hearts}{A-Spades} against robinho’s {J-Clubs}{J-Spades} only to see a jack land on the flop, which improved robinho to an aces-cracking set to bust out Febers on the bubble.

A couple of Australian players managed to progress into the money places, including Andrew “andyhin22” Hinrichsen (59th) and James “BizBills” Bills (58th) but there was no hat trick of final tables for Matt “mjw006” Wakeman who could not repeat his heroics of the past month and he crashed out in 210th place – well before the money.

One Australian who most certainly made it into the money was Steve “Stev0L_” Leonard who sailed through to the nine-handed final table. Leonard started the finale 7/9 in chips but he did not let that put him off his goal of winning.

Somehow, despite not being directly responsible for eliminating any of the final tablists, Leonard found himself heads-up against Germany’s Pokerfred99 – albeit trailing by more than five-to-one in chips. It took just nine hands of one-on-one play to decide where this week’s title was going. Leonard open-shoved for 152,830 with {5-Clubs}{4-Spades} and Pokerfred99 called with a superior {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. The {A-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs} gifted Leondard a pair of fours, the {6-Hearts} on the turn added a straight draw but the {Q-Diamonds} was the river card to improve Pokerfred99 to a pair of queens and the title was his.

PokerNetwork is sure Leonard is disappointed to have not won, but once he realises that he has an extra $85,039.00 in his PokerStars account we are certain he will have a smile from ear to ear! Congratulations!
