"Don't forget about our exclusive APCOOP Freeroll - Tonight at 8pm at PokerStars!"
November 23, 2010

With the opening two events of the first ever PokerStars Asia Pacific Championship of Online Poker now firmly in the record books, last night all eyes were on the third event of the APCOOP.

It was at 8pm that the second day of the series kicked off, with the event on offer a $22 2x Chance Turbo No-Limit Holdem Event. The tournament came with a $7,500 guarantee which, like the opening two events, managed to be eclipsed with over double that amount in the prize pool.

The event brought out some of Australia’s best players, with recent back-to-back ANZPT player of the year winner Tony Hachem taking part in the tournament. With the relatively small buy-in, PokerStars with the APCOOP have managed to bring out some of the best Aussie grinders and as such the series has so far brought about some tough fields.

With the first event continuing well into the next morning with a running time close to 14 hours, it was the structure and the corresponding starting time has now become a talking point of the forums but with last nights event being Turbo it was a welcomed feature with the winner taking home the victory after just over four hours.

Several notable names made some deep runs including Gary ‘Podster1’ Henderson (12th $176.64), Chris ‘PokerDomeAA’ Levick (23rd $85.24), Alex ‘Garage13’ Dickinson (30th $69.12), Heath ‘The BigHef’ Chick (40th $61.44) and Nick ‘nickkaka’ Kakalis (69th $49.15). Also making the cash was Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang (48th $57.60), but it was well known Australian Steve ‘Steve0L_’ Leonard who would make the deepest run.

Leonard managed to weave his way through the final table, surviving until there were four players remaining. Leonard was crippled when his pocket aces were cracked by the pocket queens of WhiteRabbito, before Leonard pushed his remaining stack into the pot and found one caller, with ‘soso8088’ calling from the big blind. The board ran out J hearts2 diams2 clubs10 hearts9 hearts. Holding 6 clubs6 diams, sos8088’s two-pair was too good for Leonard’s A diams3 clubs.

When play came down to heads-up it would be soso8088 with more than a 2-1 chip lead over WhiteRabbito. With the blinds creeping ever higher the chips were all in the middle with WhiteRabbito seeing his tournament life at risk holding K heartsK spades. With a board running out J hearts5 hearts2 spades3 spades4 hearts and soso8088 holding Q hearts6 spades, the runner-runner straight would mean goodbye to WhiteRabbito and hello to a victory for soso8088.
