The Aussie Millions has grown into one of the biggest tournaments in the world and 2012 is sure to be no different as Crown Casino in Melbourne will again award millions of dollars this coming January.
Each and every year the best players from around the globe descend upon Crown Casino in Melbourne to take part in the prestigious Aussie Millions. Not only is the event easily the largest tournament in the southern hemisphere, but consistent growth has seen the Aussie Millions Main Event become arguably the biggest tournament outside the World Series of Poker. The 2012 event is officially the 10th anniversary of the Aussie Millions and is set to be bigger than ever.
The schedule is unrivalled in its scope as events ranging from several $550 buy-in tournaments are on offer, along with the gargantuan $250,000 Challenge which is sure to again draw a field of the best and richest players in the world.
Also added to the schedule this January is a $5,000 Chinese Poker event. The tournament will be one of the biggest tournaments this poker variant has ever seen and is sure to draw a lot of interest.
The Opening Event of the Aussie Millions kicks off on Thursday, January 12 and will cost $1,100. That event was won by Martin Drewe last year and he took down a massive $200,020 for his big effort.
Of course it is the $10,600 Main Event which all the punters will be in town for and is sure to not disappoint as another $2 million first prize is expected to be awarded to the eventual winner. Last year’s event made headlines when 68-year old local grandfather David Gorr took down the huge first prize to become the champion.
The Main Event is set to start on January 22nd and will feature 3 Day 1 flights before being played as a five day event with one of the best tournament structures ion the world.
A total of 26 championship format tournaments will be available across the 2012 Aussie Millions and Crown Casino are currently running dozens of satellites and qualifiers every week. The event is not to be missed as it coincides with the hugely popular Australian Open tennis championship, making Melbourne the place to be in January.
