The PokerStars Australia New Zealand Poker Tour has recently kicked off at Crown Casino in Melbourne, with the 100k guaranteed opening event starting proceedings with a bang.
This year’s ANZPT Melbourne event makes it the third time the popular tournament series has been featured in the city which continues to solidify itself as the home of poker in Australia.
A total of twelve events will be played over a two week period with buy-ins ranging from the $50 opening event to the $5,000 high roller event and then culminating in the $2,200 Main Event starting from Saturday the 24th of September.
The action is already well underway in the Crown Poker Room, as the first of five Day 1 flights have already kicked into action in the popular 100k guaranteed opening event. The event which has previously featured a $50,000 guarantee has proven to be a massive success and with the increased prizepool guarantee, the event now becomes the largest buy-in to prizepool ratio in Australian Poker history.
As early reports come in from the opening event, the guarantee is set to be reached, while the eventual champion is primed to turn their $50 investment into $20,000 for their efforts. Saturday the 17th will see the last two Day 1 flights at 12.00 pm and 7.00 pm respectively, before Day 2 action commences on Sunday the 18th.
While the opening event is already garnering mass amounts of interest, the spotlight will of course be firmly set on the $2,200 ANZPT Melbourne Main Event.
The event, which will run from Saturday the 24th to Monday the 26th of September, is expected to hold in excess of 300 entrants and with last year’s Main Event final table featuring the likes of James ‘Andy McLeod’ Obst, Amanda De Cesare, Raj Ramakrishna and eventual champion Martin Kozlov, this year is again set to feature some of the best players from around the region.
The Main Event will also see players looking to accumulate points toward the Australia New Zealand Player of the Year leader board, with recent APPT Melbourne Main Event victor Leo Boxell currently out in front.
