The eagerly anticipated PokerStars.net Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) Repechage Main Event begins today at the Crown Casino, Melbourne and it promises to be everything you would expect and more.

The $1,100 buy-in tournament features three starting flights, the first of which kicks off at 18:10 on May 30 – that is tonight! Anyone who busts on Day 1A can re-enter again on Day 1B or Day 1C. If they are extremely unlucky, they can buy back in on both subsequent starting flights!

Although this is the first time in ANZPT history that a Main Event is being played to the repechage format, there have been several repechage tournaments held at the Crown Poker Room in recent time. Last year, at the 2012 Melbourne Poker Championships, Australia’s leading poker lady Jackie Glazier took full advantage of the repechage format on her way to yet another victory.

IveyPoker pro Glazier busted out on Day 1A and Day 1B but used her third bullet with devastating effect, eventually defeating Simon Moshi heads up to claim the title and the AUD$95,000 prize money that came with the victory.

The last time the ANZPT dropped anchor in Melbourne was in October 2012. On that occasion, 345 players bought into the Main Event, creating a prize pool of A$690,000. The champion of that tournament was, and still is, Paul Hockin who took home A$101.275 for his impressive victory.

Whichever starting fight you choose to play in, you’re in for a treat. All players start with 20,000 tournament chips and will play to a tried and tested blind structure that starts as low as 50/100. The superb structure increases every 30-minutes for the first four levels, and 40-minutes thereafter on Day 1. Make it through to Day 2 and the blind levels increase to 60-minutes, with the final tablists being treated to 75-minute blind levels.
