The Online Railbird Report: Sahamies & Cao in Action But “ChaoRen160" Reigns Supreme

Posted at 18:00 2012-07-07 by Chad Holloway

In last week’s Online Railbird Report, we talked about the return of both Ilari “Ilari FIN” Sahamies and Rui “PepperoniF” Cao to the virtual felt. This week, both were in action again, but neither found their way to the top of the leaderboard for the week.

“ChaoRen160” won $225,777 in 3,055 hands spread across 18 sessions, earning the distinction of top winner of the week. Rounding out the top five winners of the week were “Phisherman36” (+$156,617 in 15 sessions/4,283 hands), “mickan1984” (+$130,452 in 38 sessions/1,459 hands), “h4tefulltilt” (+$97,717 in 19 sessions/2,098 hands) and Phil “takechip” D’Auteuil (+$90,902 in 22 sessions/1,809 hands).

“PimpyLimpy” was the week’s biggest loser after dropping $152,950 in 10,949 hands over 129 sessions while “altiFC” followed a little further behind with $115,925 in losses from 3,054 hands over 24 sessions.

“ChaoRen160” vs. “wilhasha” in Thursday $50/$100 NLHE Action

On Thursday, June 28, a big $50/$100 no-limit hold’em heads-up match occurred between “wilhasha” and “ChaoRen160” that saw the latter take $160,000 from the former in just two hours. The two played two tables and put in a combined 810 hands. In the biggest, “wilhasha” ($84,080.16) opened for $250 on the button, “ChaoRen160” ($65,252.63) called and the flop fell {10-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. “ChaoRen160” proceeded to check-raise “wilhasha’s” bet of $322.80 to $1,000, a call was made, and the {7-Clubs} appeared on the turn.

This time, “ChaoRen160” took the initiative and led out for $2,122, “wilhasha” raised to $7,208.50, and “ChaoRen160” called. When the {J-Diamonds} appeared on the river, “ChaoRen160” checked, “wilhasha” fired out $21,000, and “ChaoRen160” moved all-in for $56,794.13. “Wilhasha” made the call with {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for a set of sevens, but it was no good against the {9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} of “ChaoRen160,” who was no doubt happy to pull in the $130,503 pot.

“ChaoRen160’s” big score made him far and away the day’s biggest winner, while “wilhasha” dropped $169,000 and earned the biggest loser honors.

Cao, Sahamies and “Phisherman36” Highlight Tuesday Action

On Tuesday, Rui “PepperoniF” Cao played 4,100 hands of $50/$100 pot-limit Omaha against “Phisherman36,” but things did not go well. Over the course of six hours, the latter won $146,000, making him the day’s biggest winner.

In their largest pot, Cao ($31,149) was on the button and raised to $300, “Phisherman36” ($86,607.50) three-bet to $900, Cao four-bet $2,700, and “Phisherman36” put in a five-bet to $8,100. Not to be outdone, Cao made it $24,300 to go and then called off his last $6,849 when “Phisherman36” seven-bet.

Showdown

“Phisherman36”{A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}
Cao{K-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{3-Spades}

Cao ran kings into “Phisherman36’s” aces, and the latter’s hand held as the board ran out {Q-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, giving the $62,296 pot to “Phisherman36.”

Not content with the punishment he received from “Phisherman36,” Cao went on to play a two-hour session against Ilari “Ilari FIN” Sahamies, who managed increase Cao’s losses by walking away a $33,000 winner.

In their biggest hand, Cao ($37,861) opened for $300 on the button and then called a three-bet to $900 from Sahamies ($29,738), bringing about the {9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{K-Diamonds} flop. Sahamies was first to act and led out for $1,798, which Cao raised to $4,200. Sahamies made the call and then check-called a bet of $5,099 on the {9-Hearts} turn, leading to the {J-Diamonds} river. Again Sahamies checked, opening the door for Cao to bet $20,396.

Sahamies called off his remaining $19,539, creating a pot worth $59,474, and turned over {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for aces and nines, which was good against Cao’s {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}{6-Clubs} queens and nines. Not surprisingly, Cao finished the day as the biggest loser, down $187,000. That was more than twice as much as the next biggest loser, “wilhasha,” who lost $72,000 on the day. Interestingly, it was actually “wilhasha" who was involved in Tuesday’s biggest pot.

In that hand, which was played at a six-handed game of $200/$400 NLHE, “wilhasha” ($40,000) opened for $1,000 from the cutoff, “mickan1984” ($55,185) called from the small blind, and “donthnrmepls” ($38,800) called from the big. Action checked to “wilhasha” on the {7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop, and he promptly bet $1,797.

From there, “mickan1984” check-raised to $3,825.88, “donthnrmepls” and “wilhasha” called, and the {K-Spades} appeared on the turn. “Mickan1984” fired out $16,000, only “wilhasha” called, and the {5-Diamonds} peeled off on the river. This time “mickan1984” checked but called when “wilhasha” moved all-in for $19,174.11. “Wilhasha” rolled over {K-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for kings and fives, but this was no good against the {5-Spades}{5-Hearts} quads of “mickan1984,” who was pushed the $84,821 pot.

$200/$400 Pot-Limit Omaha Headlines Wednesday Action

It’s rare for the $200/$400 pot-limit Omaha games to spread, which is why it was a treat to see a game going on Wednesday night, albeit for just 35 minutes. The game had Ilari “Ilari FIN” Sahamies and David “Deldar182” Eldar on the virtual felt, and when all was said and done, Sahamies walked away winning $36,000.

In their biggest pot, Sahamies ($19,712.90) raised to $800 on the button and then called a three-bet to $2,400 from Eldar ($16,209.10). The {2-Clubs}{8-Spades}{J-Spades} flop saw Eldar lead out for $4,798, and then call off his remaining $9,011.10 when Sahamies moved all-in.

Showdown

Eldar{A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{6-Clubs}
Sahamies{K-Clubs}{K-Spades}{8-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

Eldar had flopped top pair with top kicker on the flop, but it was behind Sahamies' bottom two pair. Neither the {5-Spades} turn nor {10-Hearts} river would change a thing, and Sahamies took down the $32,416 pot.

Sahamies should have stopped there but went on to play $50/$100 PLO against Rui “PepperoniF” Cao. It took just an hour for Cao to dismantle Sahamies to the tune of $80,000. In their biggest hand that wasn’t a chop, Cao ($55,122) raised to $300 on the button and then called a three-bet to $940 from Sahamies ($48,653.34). The {10-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop saw Sahamies lead out for $1,918, Cao raised to $4,500, Sahamies call, and the {2-Hearts} appeared on the turn.

Sahamies proceeded to check-call a bet of $7,500, before check-calling a bet of $25,918 on the {8-Spades} river. With $77,754 on the line, Cao rolled over {J-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{10-Spades}{4-Clubs} for the rivered nuts, and Sahamies simply mucked.

Thanks to Cao, who finished as the day’s second biggest winner with $80,000, Sahamies ended up losing $58,000 on the day, enough to make him the second biggest loser. “Wilhasha” (+$94,000) and “altiFC” (-$101,000) were the day's biggest winner and loser, both of whom played $100/$200 NLHE on Wednesday.

Their biggest nonsplit pot began when “wilhasha” ($37,830.23) raised to $500 on the button only to be met with a three-bet to $2,000 from “altiFC” ($38,009.09). “Wilhasha” responded with a four-bet to $4,800, “altiFC” called, and then both players checked the {J-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} flop.

When the {10-Diamonds} turned, “altiFC” check-called a bet of $5,758.80 before check-calling “wilhasha’s” all-in shove for $27,271.43 on the {7-Hearts} river. “AltiFC” revealed {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} for a turned Broadway straight, but it was no good against the {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} full house of “wilhasha,” who was pushed the $75,658 pot.
