Tod Thomson Is Leading The Repechage Players To Day 2!

Day 1 has come to an end! It only took us three days but we got there.
Today, of course, was the repechage day for all the players that had been busted out on day 1A and day 1B in this year’s Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series Main Event.
After the high level of loose aggressive play that we had seen over the first two ‘Day 1’s’ we expected much of the same thing today. We could not have been more wrong.
Day 1c was a day played with caution, it seems that the 193 players who stepped up to the plate for a second attempt in this year’s tournament had felt the humiliation of being busted out of the tournament once this week and they weren’t looking for that same feeling again. 75 players made it through today unscathed and they will join the rest of the field for tomorrow’s day 2 action. Players such as Dennis Huntly, Bill Jordanou, Tim “Luckyshades”Horan, Graeme “Kiwi G” Put , new Queen of Australian poker- 2009 JHDSS High Rollers Champion Monica Nguyen and tournament name sake Joe Hachem all duck, dodged and weaved their way through the field to still be alive at the end of the day.
Whilst the action today was a little slower there were still some fantastic match ups scattered throughout the field. One that springs to mind was at table 24, the one closest to our reporting area which saw three online poker superstars – Andrew “Adgee” Jeffreys, Ben “CNT_CRUSHER” Delaney and Jonathan “xMONSTERxDONGx” Karamalikis all sitting next to each other. This was an intriguing battle field to keep an eye over.
Another great match up was that of “The Joe Hachem Champion” of last year Luke Santo versus “Joe Hachem The Champion” yes that’s right the main event champion from last year was seated two seats away from the 2005 World Champion. Sadly for Santo however he did not make it through to the end of the day being eliminated and making a much more unceremonious exit than he was able to do last year.
This means that there will be a different champion crowned this year. There are certainly a host of players in today’s field who think that they have a real shot at the title and very few should be more confident than today’s chip leader Tod Thomson. Thomson is at the top of today’s food chain with 145,600 which will give him every opportunity to make a great success of day 2.
Day 2 promises to be action packed as we will be playing down to the final table. Make sure you are glued to your computer from 12.10 pm tomorrow to find out will be our bubble boy, who will be leaving this tournament with some cash and who will be the final ten that will battle it out for their chance to win $100,000 and to be known throughout all eternity as the 2009 Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series Main Event Champion.
The top five chip counts from Day 1c JHDSS Main Event
1. Tod Thomson 145,600
2. Danny Zavitsanos 145,100
3. Jack Drake 141,100
4. Steve Forman-Todd 136,100
5. Michael Ngo 102,300
