Tony Chang Leads As WPT Prague Reaches Penultimate Day

Posted at 18:51 2012-12-08 by Matthew Pitt

Just 22 players remain in the World Poker Tour Prague Main Event after the end of Day 2 and it is Tony Chang who leads the field with his 2,173,000 chips.

Hong Kong’s Chang has a total of nine live tournament cashes to his name, two in Australia with the remainder coming from tournaments in Macau and Taipa. The largest of these cashes tops the scales at $22,879 but he is set to smash that figure if his form continues in this tournament because he is on course for the huge €325,000 first place prize offered to the WPT Prague champion.

Joining Chang through to the penultimate day’s play is a whole host of big names, and the potential is there to have an epic final table. Ireland’s Dermot Blain must fancy his chances now that he has made it through to Day 4, although his 288,000 stack is far shorter than he would have preferred to have in his possession at this stage.

Kevin MacPhee is in a slightly better position with 697,000 chips, but he still has plenty of work to do if he wants to add a WPT title to the PokerStars European Poker Tour Berlin title he already possesses.

Looking down the list of players still in with a shout of some Prague glory your eyes are greeted with big name after big name. Former World Series of Poker Europe Main Event champion Elio Fox (1,186,000) is still there, as is a former WPT champion in the dangerous Dmitry Gromov (461,000). As is Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mericer (214,000) and Fabian Quoss (279,000) and let us not forget Simon Ravnsbaek (360,000) and Canada’s Yann Dion (877,000).

Play in the WPT Prague Main Event resumes at 13:00 CET and will continue until only the final table of six remain. The chances of having a star-studded final table are very high, tune in tomorrow morning to discover which stars have managed to make it to the finale, and which of them have faded out just before it.
