Typhoon Haiyan Emergency Appeal

Posted at 19:00 2013-11-16 by Tim Duckworth

Just last week on Friday, November 8th, Typhoon Haiyan stuck the Philippines destroying the country and taking the lives of thousands of people while also affecting millions more. Easily one of the most devastating natural catastrophes the Philippines have ever seen, it was a truly sad day for the people of the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific area.

Thankfully people around the world have lent their hands, supplies and money to help the people of the Philippines devastated by Typhoon Haiyan, and now the poker world is attempting to do their part. PokerStars have teamed up with the global relief charity CARE International to launch an emergency appeal where PokerStars players can make donations to the CARE International relief effort via the PokerStars client.

What is more impressive is that PokerStars plans to match the total amount raised with this effort being launched through PokerStars’ corporate giving program Helping Hands.

There are a few ways you can contribute.

Donation via a Dummy Tournament

  • In the PokerStars client lobby, special dummy events have been set up under the ‘Tourney’ > ‘All’ tabs.
  • These are not real tournaments, but simple ways for PokerStars to collect donations.
  • You can also find these dummy tournaments by typing ‘Typhoon Haiyan Relief’ into the tournament filter.

Donation Through Player Transfer

  • An account name titled ‘Typhoon Fund’ has been set up to collect transfers with the associated country of the Isle of Man
  • Simply head to the cashier and decide upon any amount you would like to transfer to ‘Typhoon Fund’
