The sixth day of the 2009 Aussie Millions Poker Championships saw 96 starters, and two alternates, hit the felt for Event #5: $1,100 H.O.R.S.E.
There were very few soft spots in a field full of experience and talent. The old-schoolers were out to prove that the H.O.R.S.E game is one for the purists as Billy “The Croc” Argyros, Maurie Pears, Mel Judah, Peter Aristidou, Harry Demetriou, Marsha Waggoner, Tony Bloom, Lee Nelson, Graeme Putt, Mick Stanton, Jeff Lisandro, Tino Lechich and Gary Benson were all in action.
However the young guns were one again out in force to try and claim the mantle of poker dominance in this country with James Obst, Michael Guzzardi, Rayan Nathan, Ryan Hurst, Mitchell Carle, Trung Tran, Luke McLean and Oliver Gill leading the charge.
After a lengthy dinner break for players to enjoy the Australian Poker Hall of Fame Presentation, the field was reduced to a final table of eight at around midnight with APPT Manila champion Van Marcus carrying the chip lead into tomorrow’s final table.
Here is the final table lineup:
Seat 1: Joe Meissner (43,000)
Seat 2: Jarred Solomon (65,000)
Seat 3: Van Marcus (123,500)
Seat 4: Leo Boxell (104,500)
Seat 5: David Morton (38,500)
Seat 6: Michael Guzzardi (98,000)
Seat 7: Kerry Stead (81,000)
Seat 8: Anthony MacNamara (34,500)
Play will recommence at 4 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. Also tomorrow sees the commencement of Event #6: $1,150 No Limit Hold’em with Rebuys which should be a highly entertaining and action-packed affair. Stay tuned to PokerNetwork for all of your Aussie Millions updates!
