In a little under two months Las Vegas will play host to the WSOP and its million dollar payouts and coveted bracelets. However if you’re unable to get there, you still have a chance at being part of the action through every poker player’s favourite pastime . . . prop bets!
The WSOP kicks off on May 27th and Bodog have just released their odds for the prop bets for the upcoming series on their website. These prop bets are the salt and pepper that are added to maintain the interest of both poker player and fan throughout the lengthy World Series. With Bodog’s odds to change as betting progresses, more betting sites will soon provide their odds to the public.
Scotty Nguyen started the ball rolling when he declared on camera then he would retire from poker if he didn’t pocket a combined $4 million at the WSOP this year. The bottom line; Nguyen would have to capture the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E title again plus the new $40,000 No Limit Hold’em event or reach heads-up play in the Main Event. If you feel that Nguyen has a shot then Bodog are offering odds of $21 that Nguyen will be successful.
After John “The Razor” Phan’s efforts last year Bodog believe that a player capturing two bracelets is a possibility as they are offering odds of $2.40 with three bracelets unlikely at $13. Following in the footsteps of Katja Thater, odds of $2.40 are there for people who believe a female will capture a bracelet in an open event – which represents a huge improvement in female respect following the success of Annette Obrestad, Vanessa Rousso and Sandra Naujoks on the world stage.
The bracelet race between Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan makes it interesting for punters with Hellmuth the clear favourite at $4, while Brunson and Chan sit at $11. However the bet that is probably going to gain the most attention is the last longer in the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E Event with Nguyen favourite at $6 following recent success in that variety and is closely followed by Freddy Deeb, David Williams and Justin Bonomo.
With even more options to choose from such as longest lasting past Main Event winner, female and most winnings from a pair, Bodog offer a wide variety of options for the prop better within us all as we count down to the 2009 World Series of Poker.
