"ANZPT Queensland Champion Scott Kerr"
August 09, 2009
Congratulations To Scott Kerr, Champion Of The PokerStars.net ANZPT Queensland Main Event ($168,075)!
249 players took to the felt at both Conrad Treasury (Brisbane) and Conrad Jupiters (Gold Coast) to see a bumper field assembled for the PokerStars.net ANZPT Queensland Main Event! It was the final stop on a highly successful tour, and after five days of poker and a rather short final table, we finally have crowned a champion in 21-year old Star City dealer Scott Kerr.
Kerr came into the final table sitting in fourth chip position, and as players fell around him, Kerr kept his patience and mental toughness even when his stack dwindled.
With crowd favourites Danny Joukhadar and Scott 'Punty' Smith on the rail, Kerr began his steep climb up the chip leader board eventually dispatching of Shoshiro Karita in fourth to be back in line with the three remaining players.
Once Joel 'StrongPlay' Dodds was on the rail, Kerr was looking at a seven-to-two chip deficit against the very aggressive, but highly skilled Phillip Willcocks.
In a first for the tour, it would be an Australia versus New Zealand heads-up match, and as the stereotype goes - the Aussie battler would emerge with Kerr grinding away at Willcocks' chip lead before taking it off him in one quick sweep.
On the final hand, Kerr would have Willcocks dominated, and once the queen-high board ran out, he would be crowned ANZPT Queensland Champion for 2009!
As the inaugural tour wraps up for the year, there is no doubt that we will see it return in 2010 bigger and better than you could imagine!
However, for those poker junkies that still haven't got their fix yet; the Victorian Poker Championships are underway at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, and the PokerNetwork Live Reporting Team will be there providing all the live coverage as it occurs.
From both the Gold Coast and Brisbane, PokerNetwork would like to say thank you for following the coverage as we wave goodbye for now from the Sunshine state!
