Angie Italiano Gets Some Chips!

Written by JoeyDel, 2009 03 20 06:15 pm EST

Angie Italiano has doubled up.

She got {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}in against {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}. The pair of sixes held and Italiano is now up to 34,000.

I know this is not the worlds most exciting hands but it does give me an opportunity to put up a photo of Angie Italiano.

Angie is one of the foundation stones of Australian Poker and it is always good to see her alive in tournaments.

Julius Colman Is Gone

Written by JoeyDel, 2009 03 20 06:06 pm EST

It is always frustrating for a player to get eliminated in the last blind level of the day and that is what just happened to Julius Colman.

He open raised from middle position to 2,200 and was called by Mark Cesaria in late position and Toothpick Tony in the big blind.

On the {j-Clubs}{a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}flop it was checked to Cesaria who moved all in. Toothpick Tony got out of the way but Julius Colman called. He flipped over {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}for a pair of Jacks and a gutshot to be in a lot of trouble when Cesaria turned over {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}.

The turn and river bricked out, Julius Colman is eliminated and Mark Cesaria is a serious contender here as we approach the end of Day 1B.
Round 8 Begins The final round on the card today has just commenced.

500/1000 with 100 antes is what we will be playing over these final 45 minutes.
Round 8 Blinds: 500/1000 Ante: 100

Written by JoeyDel, 2009 03 20 05:43 pm EST

A player in early position moved all in for 31,000, he was called by Marc Des Anges in middle positon and Luke Edwards who is seated near him. The players turned over:

UTG: {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Des Anges: {A-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Edwards: {A-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The board bricked out and we lose one player.

Marc Des Anges moves to 66,000 and Luke Edwards is in a comfortable position with 62,000

Trung Tran Eliminated

Written by Duffman, 2009 03 20 05:42 pm EST

We just caught Trung Tran on his way out the door after being eliminated.

"I got coolered man" said Tran.

According to Tran he raised preflop with {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}and was flat called by the player directly to his left.

The flop came down {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}and Tran fired 2,600 and again his opponent called. When the {4-Diamonds}hit the turn Tran raised and his opponent moved all in, Tran made the call for his chips and his opponent flipped over {A-Spades}{a-Clubs}.

Tran wasn't able to make his flush redraw on the river, sending him home for the day.

Duckworth A Natural

Written by TassieDevil, 2009 03 20 05:32 pm EST

PokerNews blogger Tim Duckworth is known for his fondness for the game of Baccarat, and we wandered past his table to observe him open the action from middle position with a raise to 2,100.

After some sly glances from a few opponents the table folded around and Duckworth collected the blinds and antes.

"Oooh I got away with it!" chirped an excited Duckworth as he turned over his cards to reveal a {7-Spades}. Behind it he slowly squeezed...the {2-Spades}. Natural nine baby!
