That's Curtains Everyone

Written by JoeyDel, 2009 03 21 07:07 pm EST

What is worse then being eliminated from a poker tournament?

Being eliminated from the same tournament twice!

That is exactly what happened to the 118 players who were eliminated from today's repecharge.

However for the 75 players that did make it through to Day 2 today's life line gives them a shot at going all the way in this years main event.

The play seemed a lot more stifled today than it did in the previous two days of "Day 1" action with the realisation that if you were knocked out today then you would not be allowed to come back taking its effect on the players.

We did lose some big names today players such as 2008 APPT Sydney champ Grant Levy and 2009 Aussie Millions Champion Stewart Scott. Local favourites Sherif Derias, Marlon Goonawardana and Sam Korman as well as online phenoms Mathew "OnMyVPlates" Pearson and Ali "Peppermint Hippo" Khalil.

The top 5 chip counts from today's play are as follows

1. Tod Thomson 145,600
2. Danny Zavitsanos 145,100
3. Jack Drake 141,100
4. Steve Forman-Todd 136,100
5. Michael Ngo 102300

Tomorrow promises to be a massive day of poker action with the race to the final table well and truly underway.

Be with us tomorrow from 12.10pm as we find out who will be this years bubble boy, who will make the cash and who will be the final 10 players left standing at the end of the day to fight it out for the $100,000 first prize?

You will find out the answers to all of these things and a whole lot more coming to you from us exclusively from the Crown Casino Poker Room for the 2009 Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series Main Event!

Some Last-Minute Action

Written by blanklacholland, 2009 03 21 06:43 pm EST

During the last three hands we've seen a slight jump in the amount of action as the short stacks try to double up.

Nichole Pickering lost her tournament life, courtesy of Peter Mobbs, while Monica Nguyen picked off Michael Chrisanthopoulos' bluff to send him down to 20,000.

However as we look over the Crown Poker Room, all the remaining tables are now being bagged and tagged. The day has come to a close!

Chalk One Up For Monaghan

Written by blanklacholland, 2009 03 21 06:42 pm EST

Adam Monaghan has eliminated another player from the Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series after calling an all-in raise from an unknown opponent on the button.

Opponent: {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Monaghan: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}

Monaghan had to sweat a flop and turn of {K-Clubs}{2-Spades}{J-Hearts}{5-Spades}, but a meaningless {4-Hearts}fell on the river to send him up to 95,000 and his opponent out the door.

Three More Hands

Written by blanklacholland, 2009 03 21 06:38 pm EST

The tournament director has instructed that three more hands are to be dealt before bagging and tagging the remaining players and ending the day.

Zavitsanos Sends One Packing

Written by blanklacholland, 2009 03 21 06:31 pm EST

Danny Zavitsanos and an unknown female opponent found their money in the middle pre-flop.

Zavitsanos: {A-?}{K-?}
Opponent: {K-?}{Q-?}

The flop and turn brought {K-?}{Q-?}{6-?}{2-?}, which saw the young lady in the lead, until the river {A-?}fell, two-pairing Zavitsanos and ending her tournament life.

Zavitsanos is now up to 155,000.

Drake Doubles Through Youssef

Written by blanklacholland, 2009 03 21 06:25 pm EST

With a flop of {A-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{A-Hearts}, Jack Drake made it 23,000 to go. Sammy Youssef raised all-in and Drake snap-called.

Youssef: {A-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Drake: {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}

Though both players had flopped a set, Drake had Youssef outkicked. It was to remain that way as the turn and river bricked out {10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}.

Drake moves up to 150,000 while Youssef is reduced to 50,000.

Toma Takes One

Written by JoeyDel, 2009 03 21 06:22 pm EST

Samir Toma has come into a bit of wealth as day 1 draws to an end.

The under the gun player has opened up to 4,900 and has been called by a middle position player and Samir Toma, Andrew "Adgee" Jeffreys then reraised all in for about 30,000 which covered all three other players.

The initial UTG raiser folded and the middle position player and Samir both called.

The three players turned over:
Middle position: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Toma: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}
Jeffreys: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

The board came out {q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}giving Samir Toma a full house and the pot. The middle position player was eliminated, Andrew Jeffreys is down to 12,000 and Samir Toma just became a contender on 75,000

No Love From Gov, Punishes Open-Shove

Written by blanklacholland, 2009 03 21 06:12 pm EST

Ricky Gov has claimed more chips and another victim as he makes his push to get into day two.

The money was all-in preflop - Gov had {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}, while his opponent turned over a measly {Q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {2-Spades}{3-Clubs}{J-Spades}{8-Hearts}{J-Clubs}, two-pairing Gov and sending the mystery man to the rail.
