Our Day Is Done But It's Not Over Yet!

Written by JoeyDel, 2009 03 23 03:09 am EST

Having plowed through our Day Two starting field of 343 players, over the arduous course of almost 15 hours whilst riding the rollercoaster of emotion, we are finally done and dusted for the day!

Our obituaries are long and full of big names like Shane Warne, Dennis Huntly, Michael 'TheBigSiCkO' Guzzardi, Monica Nguyen, Lee 'Final Table' Nelson, Andrew Demetriou, Peter Aristidou and the tournament's namesake, Joe Hachem.

Our heartfelt sympathies also go out to Robert Collina, who was the 'cash bubble' not once but twice, including this Main Event.

However, in lighter news, our chipleader heading into the final table tomorrow Daniel Botta (3,165,000). Hot on his heels is Sam (2,960,000) while David St. Eloi is in third chip position (2,565,000)

Listed below are the ten players who will be back to fight it out on the felt and decide just who will be this year's Main Event Champion:

Seat 1 - Daniel Botta (3,165,000)
Seat 2 - David St. Eloi (2,565,000)
Seat 3 - Sam Higgs (2,960,000)
Seat 4 -Chris Christofi (1,280,000)
Seat 5 - Jakson Laughton (1,660,000)
Seat 6 - Mark Bruin (940,000)
Seat 7 - Jack Drake (685,000)
Seat 8 - Ronnie Shabtay (1,965,000)
Seat 9 - John Lombardo (1,640,000)
Seat 10 - Greg Shillig (1,150,000)

Join us at PokerNetwork tomorrow afternoon from 2.00pm AEDST. We'll bring you all the action as it unfolds, but for now, we're going to enjoy a few post-tourney brewskis. See you then!

Robert Raymond Eliminated in 11th Place ($4,000)

Written by blanklacholland, 2009 03 23 02:32 am EST

It's over! Robert Raymond will go home with $4,000 and the dubious title of 'Final Table Bubble Boy'.

Raymond open-shoved from the cut-off holding {Q-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, but Daniel Botta made the call from the small blind holding {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}.

The flop paired for both players - {A-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. However Raymond was miles behind even with the turn of {3-Spades}. Eventually, Raymond's death came quickly as the dealer peeled off a meaningless {6-Diamonds}.

Raymond's day is done and we have our ten players for tomorrow's final table!

Higgs Doubles Through Chip Leader

Written by thkcduckworth, 2009 03 23 02:24 am EST

Ronnie Shabtay opened to 300,000 under the gun and Sam Higgs defended out of the big blind.

On a flop of {Q-Spades}{8-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}Sam Higgs moved all in, and after a few minutes of deliberation Shabtay made the call.

Higgs: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}
Shabtay: {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}

With Shabtay drawing to only six outs, none would fall when the {2-Diamonds}fell on the turn and the {K-Hearts}landed on the river.

As Higgs closes in on 2,600,000, Shabtay slips to 1,900,000 in chips.

We're On The Bubble!

11 players remain in the Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series Main Event. The tournament director has instructed the dealers to deal hand-for-hand until one player is eliminated.

From there, play will end for the day and the final ten players will return tomorrow morning at 12.10pm to decide who will be this year's Main Event champion!

Lombardo deliberated for over two minutes before folding and the cards were turned.

Sahin: {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}
Lombardo: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}

The board fell {5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}to see Sahin exit in 12th place as Lombardo chips up to 1,900,000 in chips.

Nick Ziogos Eliminated in 13th Place ($4,000)

Written by thkcduckworth, 2009 03 23 02:09 am EST

Nick Ziogas moved all in for 295,000 and as it folded round to Greg Shillig in the big blind he made the call.

Ziogas: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}
Shillig: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}

The flop would near lock it for Shillig when it fell {A-Hearts}{5-Spades}{10-Hearts}, and with the turn falling the {8-Diamonds}and river the {4-Spades}Ziogas would head to the rail in 13th place as Shillig pushed to 800,000 in chips.

"Tod Thomson eliminated in 14th place"

Tod Thomson Eliminated in 14th Place ($4,000)

Written by blanklacholland, 2009 03 23 02:07 am EST

Tod Thomson raised to his 950,000 all-in from middle position before the flop, only to be called down by Ronnie Shabtay on the button.

Shabtay: {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds}
Thomson: {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}

The flop and turn of {4-Spades}{9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}cause a murmur around the table, as there was a chance that the pot could be chopped.

However the {10-Diamonds}fell on the river, giving Shabtay two pair and ending Thomson's tournament life. He graciously shook everyone's hand before leaving and then headed home, $4,000 richer.
Round 24 Blinds: 40000/80000 Ante: 10000
