Congratulations Julius Colman, Winner Of Event 13: $10,200 High Stakes Holdem ($100,000)

Written by thkcduckworth, 2009 08 14 01:10 am EST

Congratulations to Julius Colman who has been crowned Champion of Event 13: $10,200 High Stakes Holdem!

After a long and intense day of poker, Sam Khouiss has taken second place and collects $60,000 for his efforts.

Only 23 players would take to the felt today with a mix of online stars including Jay 'SEABEAST' Kinkade, Steve 'stevoL' Leonard and Jonathan 'xMONSTERxDONGx' Karamalikis as well as the old hands of Billy 'The Croc' Argyros, Lee Nelson, Jason Gray and Tino Lechich.

However in the end only five players would sneak into the money with Ben Invelito and Daniel Neilson falling fifth and fourth respectively.

Van Marcus would top off a hot month picking up his third cash from as many tournaments and reach the upper echelon of Australian poker players as he became the seventh player to eclipse US$1,000,000 in tournament earnings.

Congratulations to Julius Colman for capturing the Event 13 coveted trophy, title as champion and $100,000 in prizemoney!

With the PokerNetwork Live Reporting team packing up their gear for another night, make sure to join us at 12:10pm tomorrow morning for Day 1a of the 2009 Victorian Poker Championships Main Event!

Van Marcus Eliminated In 3rd Place ($40,000)

Written by thkcduckworth, 2009 08 14 01:01 am EST

Van Marcus pushed his last few thousand into the middle from the button and Julius Colman made the call.

Marcus: {A-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Colman: {K-Clubs}{9-Spades}

The flop of {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} would see Colman again flop trips on Marcus to leave him virtually drawing dead to only running Aces, diamonds or a straight.

When the turn of the {2-Clubs} dropped, Marcus stood up and shook both Colman's and Sam Khouiss' hand as the meaningless {9-Clubs} on the river only improved Colman's hand.

Marcus will not only head home with his third cash for the series and $40,000 in his pocket, but also the seventh Australian to tick over US$1,000,000 in lifetime live tournaments winnings.

Colman Doubles Once Again

Written by thkcduckworth, 2009 08 14 12:53 am EST

As Julius Colman was still stacking chips after doubling up through Sam Khouiss, he threw out a raise to 25,000 in which Van Marcus called.

The flop of {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{3-Diamonds} was checked to see the {8-Spades} land on the turn and a 37,000-chip bet follow from Colman. Marcus moved all in and Colman immediately called.

Marcus: {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Colman: {Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}

With Marcus drawing dead, the {4-Hearts} would change little on the turn as he would slip to 30,000 as Colman doubled through to 215,000 in chips.

Khouiss Returns The Favour

Written by thkcduckworth, 2009 08 14 12:50 am EST

Sam Khouiss moved all in from the small blind and was insta-called by Julius Colman.

Khouiss: {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}
Colman: {Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

The board ran out {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} to see Colman double through to just over 100,000 as Khouiss slips back to 180,000.

Khouiss Doubles

Written by thkcduckworth, 2009 08 14 12:40 am EST

Sam Khouiss bumped it to 25,000 and Julius Colman made the call.

The flop fell down {2-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and Khouiss fired 20,000 only to have Colman move all in. Khouiss called for his 97,000 total and the cards were tabled.

Khouiss: {6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}
Colman: {9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}

The turn and river landed the {J-Spades} and {8-Clubs} to see Khouiss double through to 230,000 as Colman slips to 42,000 in chips.

Change Of Structure

Written by thkcduckworth, 2009 08 14 12:34 am EST

The tournament structure has been altered slightly as to speed up play.

The current level of 3,000-6,000-500 has been ended and a new 5,000-10,000-1,000 level has been started.

I guess everyone is interested in going home a little earlier!
