Congratulations To James Sherrill, Winner Of Event 12: $1,650 Pot Limit Omaha ($25,500)

Written by thkcduckworth, 2009 08 13 04:21 am EST

It took just under 16 hours, but we finally have a winner of Event 12: $1,650 Pot Limit Omaha event of the 2009 Victorian Poker Championships!

James Sherrill came to the final table as chip leader, and for most of its duration held onto his lead fairly tightly.

Seated amongst some of the best Omaha players Australia has to offer in Sam Youssef, Con Tsapkounis and Michael Guttman; there would be one that was clear favourite due to his skill and class - local Van Marcus.

Marcus played some fantastic poker mixed with aggression and poise to wrestle the chip lead three-handed and take a near six-to-one advantage into heads up play with Sherrill.

However a mix of luck, patience and good timing would see Sherrill snatch the lead back in his favour, and after the final conflicting hand of full house-over-full house we had our champion.

Sherrill will take home $25,500 for his efforts and also his first title - which was the most rewarding part in his opinion!

Congratulations once again to James Sherrill for capturing the Event 12 title, and make sure to join the PokerNetwork team in just under eight hours at 12:30pm for the High Stakes Holdem.

Written by thkcduckworth, 2009 08 13 04:11 am EST

Van Marcus limped the button and James Sherrill checked his option.

The flop of {4-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} fell down and a bet of 25,000 follow from Sherrill. Marcus called to see the {5-Spades} land on the turn.

Sherrill checked and Marcus fired 35,000, only to be check-raised to 100,000 by Sherrill. Marcus mulled over a decision before moving all in; and was insta-called by Sherrill.

Marcus: {K-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Diamonds}
Sherrill: {A-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs}

With Marcus drawing dead, he threw his hand in the muck as he exchanged a congratulatory handshake when the {10-Spades} fell on the river.

Marcus won't be going empty handed as he picks up $19,500 for his efforts.

Van Marcus limped in from the small blind, only to call an additional pot raise by Sam Youssef.

The flop of {2-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{7-Clubs} was checked to see the {10-Clubs} land on the turn and a pot bet from Youssef follow. Marcus called and checked the river dark to see Youssef also follow suit.

The river of the {Q-Spades} didn't change anything as Youssef was bluffing with Ace-high while Marcus held {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for a flush.
