Day 2 Is Done!

Written by TassieDevil, 2009 08 17 04:12 am EST

That brings an end to a long day 2 where we finally reached the money late in the evening and ended up with 15 players surviving to make it through to the final day of the 2009 Victorian Poker Championships. The cool, calculated strikes of Chris Chronis were a highlight as he ended the day in good shape, while Jason Gray burst the bubble in dramatic fashion to also approach the one million chip mark by the time the chips were bagged and tagged. The experience of Chronis, Gray along with Gary Benson will be tough to beat tomorrow, but they’ll have to get past the wild aggression of Morry Edelstein and Kane Sherwell who bullied and bashed their opponents all evening to end the day as our chip leaders. Sherwell in particular was red-hot as he was virtually unbeatable on his way to a massive 1,625,000 chips. Will his run continue tomorrow?

Join the PokerNetwork.com team again tomorrow from 2pm tomorrow as we crown a new Victorian Poker Championships Main Event Champion!

Efkan Koch Eliminated in 16th Place ($10,200)

Written by TassieDevil, 2009 08 17 03:26 am EST

Efkan Koch opened with a raise to 34,000 and Kane Sherwell confirmed with the dealer what the minimum raise amount was before agreeing to put 56,000 into the middle. Koch made the call.

The flop came down {7-Spades}{6-Spades}{K-Clubs} and Sherwell fired out 100,000 before Koch went all in for 163,000. Sherwell made the call.

Koch: {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}
Sherwell: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

Sherwell was in deep trouble once again and the {J-Spades} reduced his two outs to just one when the flush draw arrived for Koch. Sherwell has been in these positions all evening and capped off an unbelievable day by spiking the {9-Clubs} on the river for a one-outer to send Koch crashing to the rail in 16th place!

Bill Jordanou Eliminated in 17th Place ($10,200)

Written by TassieDevil, 2009 08 17 03:20 am EST

Bill Jordanou opened from middle position to 40,000 and found two callers in Julian Cohen and Mick Nolton.

The flop came down {K-Spades}{J-Spades}{6-Spades} and Nolton instantly moved all in for 525,000 from the small blind, and Jordanou followed up by moving his last 154,000 into the middle as well!

Cohen sat in deliberation for several moments at the action ahead of him and decided to release his {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}.

Nolton tabled {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} for a set as Jordanou flipped {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} for top two pair. The turn was the {7-Diamonds} and river the {5-Spades} and Nolton takes it with his set as Cohen missed a huge opportunity. Meanwhile Jordanou is the casualty from the carnage as he departs in 17th place for $10,200 in prize money.

Three More Hands

Written by TassieDevil, 2009 08 17 03:17 am EST

The instructions have been given for three more hands to be dealt on each table before play wraps up for the evening.

Big Stacks Tease

Written by TassieDevil, 2009 08 17 03:15 am EST

Kane Sherwell opened with a raise under the gun to 40,000 before Morry Edelstein popped it up to 125,000 from the button. Sherwell quickly called and the two big stacks went to a flop of {A-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}.

Both players checked and the {J-Hearts} fell on the turn. Sherwell toyed with the idea of betting but checked it over to Edelstein who tossed out 200,000. That was too much for Sherwell as he released his hand.

The flop came down {10-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and Edelstein bet 275,000 which represented most of Amato's stack. He deliberated for several minutes until the clock was called and he finally released his hand.

Edelstein: {A-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}
