"ANZPT Sydney Champion Angelo Hanataj"
April 25, 2010
Congratulations to Angelo Hanataj, Winner of the ANZPT Sydney Main Event ($219,432)!
After five full days of tournament poker and four-hundred and forty-five eliminations we have just one remaining with Angelo Hanataj being crowned ANZPT Sydney Champion!Nine relative unknowns sat down just six hours ago to participate in a final table that would see one player walk home with the lion's share of the $892,000 prizepool.
Michael O'Grady carried the overnight chip lead from the two previous days and won the first pot of the day but from then on things only slid downhill as he was eventually bundled out in a disappointing fifth place.
Once Ka Ming Fang hit the rail in third place when his two-pair was crushed by Angelo Hanataj's flopped set of trips we made way for a Melbourne vs Sydney, Albania vs Croatia and New School vs Old School heads up battle with Hanataj holding a near five-to-two chip advantage over tournament veteran Mike 'The Tank' Ivin.
Ivin slipped early falling to be a near seven-to-one disadvantage before calling upon his many years on the felt to draw himself not only back in the game, but on top when he mad trip Kings to double up.
However Hanataj called on the fighting ANZAC spirit that is celebrated on a day like this to claw his way back into the match picking up pot-after-pot eventually having his Broadway straight paid off on a four-flush and five-card straight board by Ivin.
The final hand would see Ivin commit the remainder of his chips to a Hanataj river raise with 'The Tank' holding a sucker-straight to Hanataj's second-nut straight.
For his efforts here at Star City, Hanataj is taking home the $219,432 first prize, coveted PokerStars trophy and respected title of ANZPT Sydney Champion.
PokerNetwork would like to congratulate Angelo Hanataj on a fantastically played tournament full of gamble, patience, composure and great timing to best the 446-player field and walk away a prize that every player dreams of . . . an ANZPT title!
As for the PokerNetwork Live Reporting Team, we would like to say many thanks to the Star City Casino and their wonderful and loyal team for their hospitality and assistance during the ANZPT Sydney as we look forward to the upcoming Melbourne Poker Championships at the Crown Casino from the 16 - 31st of May.
Until then may your Aces run into Kings, flushes into straights and all your triple-barrel bluffs remain uncalled!
