Day 1a In The Bag For Event 1

Written by thkcduckworth, 2010 01 15 03:40 am EST

After twelve levels of poker and nearly eight and a half hours of tournament poker, play has ceased for Day 1a of the $1,100 Opening Event of the 2010 Aussie Millions.

327 players took to the felt today including a barrage of local veterans and amateurs that included the likes of Peter Aristidou, Billy 'The Croc' Argyros, Sam Youssef, Aleks 'Banana Thief' Brkovic, James Broom and Hawthorn Football Club senior player Luke Hodge.

Unfortunately for the previously mention players, they would be forced to return on Saturday to repechage in Day 1c to have another crack at winning the first 2010 Aussie Millions Event.

For the lucky 51 that are currently bagging and tagging their chips, they will have the opportunity to get a few days of well needed and earned rest before returning on Sunday to battle it out on Day 2 for the estimated $250,000 first prize, coveted trophy and title of Event 1 Champion!

Leading the charge for the Day 1a flight is Xen Xenofontos with an impressive 183,300 in chips. Unfortunately for Xenofontos he is closely trailed by some respectable players in Chris Chronis (147,600), Brad Rawiller (143,100) and Tony Hachem (136,600).

Still in the hunt are Jarred 'FlopNutsOnYou' Graham (100,600), David 'LeeWah' Lee (69,900) and international guests Dan Carter (106,900) and Vanessa Selbst {92,400).

With Day 1b action kicking off at 12:30pm tomorrow, make sure to follow the PokerNetwork and Bet 24/7 coverage for every rivered flush, turned straight and flopped straight live from the Crown Poker Room and 2010 Aussie Millions!

Three Hands To Go

The clock has been paused and three more hands will be dealt before play is stopped for the night.

Panayotis Up To 100k

Written by thkcduckworth, 2010 01 15 03:28 am EST

Catching the action on a board reading {K-Clubs}{9-Spades}{Q-Spades}{7-Spades}{3-Spades} Panayotis Flourentzou called the all in push from an opponent.

Flourentzou tabled his {A-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for the nut-flush as his opponent mucked his hand to see the 2008 Melbourne Poker Championships runner-up climb to 100,000 in chips.

No Risk For Early Stop

Written by thkcduckworth, 2010 01 15 03:22 am EST

Over the last few levels the Tournament Staff were worried that there may be too few players left in the day.

The magic number that couldn't be eclipsed was 40, and after some initial worry, that number looks unlikely as there are currently 53 players remaining with around 20 minutes left in the day's play.

Stay tuned for updated chip counts and the final wrap of play.

Tahtouh Eliminated

Written by thkcduckworth, 2010 01 15 03:06 am EST

Emad Tahtouh's roller coaster day has come to a close.

He recently pushed his short stack all in, but unfortunately ran into an opponent's pocket Aces.

Joe's Brother Doubles

Written by thkcduckworth, 2010 01 15 03:02 am EST

Tony Hachem opened the action to 4,500 before Marek Kolk pushed all in from out of the blinds. Hachem called and the cards were tabled.

Hachem: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}
Kolk: {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}

The board ran out {A-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{5-Spades}{9-Hearts} to see Hachem double through to 125,000 in chips.

Tahtouh Slips

Written by thkcduckworth, 2010 01 15 02:58 am EST

Emad Tahtouh has hit a road bump.

Holding {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}, Tahtouh called an opponent's all in only to be up against {k-Hearts}{K-Spades}.

The board ran out {10-Spades}{5-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} to see Tahtouh slip to 11,000 in chips.

Graham FlopNutsOnElfenbein!

Written by thkcduckworth, 2010 01 15 02:47 am EST

Jarred 'FlopNutsOnYou' Graham opened the action with a raise to 4,500 before Craig Elfenbein pushed all in for a further 15,100. Graham called and the cards were tabled.

Graham: {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Elfenbein: {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

"My money is on Jarred. I'll take even money. This kid can't lose." spoke Emad Tahtouh as he stood up to sweat the action.

Unfortunately for Elfenbein, Tahtouh would be correct when the board ran out {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} to see Graham flop the nuts and eliminate Elfenbein on the way to moving to 110,000 in chips.
