Final Table Set!

Written by thkcduckworth, 2010 04 17 05:55 pm EST

After nearly seven hours of play and thirty eliminations we are now down to the final table of the New Zealand Poker Championships Main Event!

Play started fairly slow this morning as players jostled round for position as young guns Simon Watt, Koray Turker and Yann Pauchon were early victims before tournament stalwarts Eric Assadourian, Robert Wang, Dennis Huntly and Constantine Harach also made their way to the rail.

As play wound down to crunch time, Michael Spilkin and Joseph Allis took control of their table eventually seeing the crucial eliminations of Michael Pedley and Ben Sarjant fall before Thomas MacDonald became our unfortunate bubble boy.

With the final nine now in the money, all will be eyeing the NZ$60,000 first prize, but it will be Joseph Allis in the greatest position amassing a 213,100 chip stack.

Nipping at his heels include Michael Spilkin (210,400), Cole Swannick (161,600), Alfred Sabila (129,800) and reigning Champion Soren Eriksen (129,400).

With PokerNetwork covering all the final table action from 2:00pm local time, make sure to stay locked on to see who will be crowned the 2010 New Zealand Poker Champion!

Allis: {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades}

The board ran out {4-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} to see MacDonald eliminated in 10th place and just one short of making the final table and the minimum payouts.

On a flop of {k-?}{Q-?}{10-?} Roger Harris found himself all in holding {K-Spades}{10-Spades} against Andrew Middleditch's {A-?}{Q-?}.

Following a blank on the turn, the river landed an Ace to spell the end of Harris' day in eleventh place.

Andrew Middleditch entered the pot from the cutoff with a raise to 7,000 only to be three-bet by Cole Swannick to 18,400.

Middleditch made the call before being met with a 17,800-chip bet from Swannick on the {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop.

After a few moments in the tank, Middleditch cut out a re-raise amounting to 36,000. And after he took his allotted time, Swannick moved all in for an additional 24,800.

Nearly four minutes passed before Middleditch folded to slip to 54,000 as Swannick climbed to over the 100,000 mark.
