Day 1a Concludes
That's a wrap from Day 1a of the 2008 Victorian Poker Championships from the Crown Poker Room. A day which saw 150 players hit the felt in the hope of grabbing their share of the estimated $750,000 prize pool.In the end only 50 players have kept their dreams of glory alive with Michael Pinzone a likely overnight chip leader. Michael took down some key pots during the day to end it with close to 200,000. Lurking close behind on Day 2 will be Emanuel Seal, Eric Assadourian and Henry Sun.
Other notables to survive Day 1a action include Julian Powell, Peter Aristidou, Gary Benson, Jay "Seabeast" Kinkade, Tino Lechich and Sarah Bilney.
We'll return to do it all again tomorrow as an expected field of around 200 players try their luck on Day 1b of the Main Event. All the action kicks off at 12:30pm local time, but in the meantime stay tuned to PokerNetwork.com for daily summaries, results and plenty of discussion on the 2008 Victorian Poker Championships.

On the last hand of the night Tino Lechich has just busted two opponents including Harry Demetriou.All three players were all-in preflop with Demetriou holding

Kent Hunter moved all in from under the gun and Peter Aristidou thought for a while before making the call.Hunter held pocket jacks to be in great shape against the pocket nines of Aristidou.
However the board fell
to complete the straight for Aristidou to jump him to 85,000 and leave Hunter heading for the rail.

The Croc Eliminated!
Helen Davis raised it up preflop to 3,000 and Billy "The Croc" Argyros made the call out of the blinds.The flop came down
and both players checked. When the turn bricked, Crocky led out with a bet of 4,000. Davis deliberated and chatted a little before making the call. The river landed the and Crocky fired out another 8,000. Davis then moved all in and Crocky made the call.Crocky held
for the flush but Davis revealed for the stone cold nuts! Out of nowhere, Billy "The Croc" was sent to the rail as Davis moves up to 75,000 chips!

Play Slowing
With only 56 players remaining they all have two things in mind; chip accumulation and survival.It is obvious though that the latter is taking precedent as play is slowing.
With only half an hour of play remaining in the day, all players are looking to survive into day 2 on Sunday and consequently play is fairly slow.

Facing an early position raise to 4,000, Julian Cohen made it 10,000 to go. The initial raiser then moved all-in for 25,000 more and Cohen made the call.Cohen:
