Occasionally there are some good arbs to be had on MMA between the Australian TABs and the US off-shore books. I don't think the Aussie TABs take a huge amount of action on them so you can find some stale pricing.

Backing on betfair is just traditional straight betting like you would with a bookmaker. Remember to take 5% off your potential winnings to account for commission.

Laying is being the bookmaker. Say you think people are betting into a terrible number on a particular game. Take Sydney FC last night for example people on Betfair were backing Sydney at $2.20... you could swoop and offer to lay Sydney at $2.21 (or whatever price you think) and people would then be backing at your offer until the amount of action you've offered has been taken or someone offers a better price.

Stopped by the TAB with Dad a few times as a kid. Used to put a couple of bucks each way on something with a cool name.

It is an interesting situation... Unless they have an automated system that automatically lays off into the tab pool, being that they are both TABCorp they could potentially have something like this set up - particuarly when they are only garuanteeing to pay out of one particular pool. If I were you i'd look to get my money in at Centrebet or one of the other bookmakers that will play across the three pools.
