| 2010 09 29 11:50 am I don’t know how far you are from the money but that is also something to be considered, the button is also raising the SB who is the chip leader at the table, betting into the chip leader from the button is begging a RR if you had been playing loose. Button should not raise light here IMHO, but close to the bubble is a good time to pickup chips from the blinds so most times you would have good fold equity for a push against villain. Without a read I would only be pushing with hands. 99+ AJs+ KQs Ako. If the SB was a medium stack you could open that range a bit wider. | |
| 2010 09 10 02:05 pm At this stage of sng some history as to how you play the sb has been noted by the bb, if you have been raising the sb often then villain is going to take this into consideration, If you push you will only get called by a better hand. As you are on the bubble I would not want to risk it at this point. I would sooner raise then call or fold then call. If I had not been steeling the blinds, I would raise 3000 and fold to a RR. | |

Re: Need Help. ATO on my case!! 2009 11 25 11:15 amI doubt winnings will be taxed, unless you become a professional, because that would mean losses could be offset against other taxable income. There is a lot more losers than winners. The whole idea of government tax is to make money to pay the unemployed. Hang on a second didn't I read that you were unemployed mmmmmm.
| 2009 09 25 11:05 am I think it comes down to maths, If you think someone could be calling with AXs then I suppose you have to discount some of your outs, of course trips with a possibility of full boat are a concern and the higher stra8. You have the possible stra8 flush draw in the gut shot to help, but the non spade T’s may give someone that higher stra8. Lets look at your outs 9s + 3T = 12, I don’t think the over cards are any good here, lets discount 2s for the AXs being held by a villain and 2 T’s for the higher stra8, that only gives us 8 outs to the river we need 2/1 or better, the pot is currently $3600 and $2500 to you, giving you around 1.5/1, I would discount "lfly" coming in about 50/50 so we would be looking at a total pot of $3600 + 50% of "ifly's" $2500 being $1250 = $4850. So its $4850/$2500 = 1.9/1. I fold but its O so close and I could have called this without the advantage of time to think about it. (the maths is not spot on but close enough). | |
Re: Getting value from the nuts on the river... 2009 09 09 11:15 amWhat raise is most likely to get called and what are the %, what will you return be over the long haul eg: all-in likely to be called 20% of the time, pot size bet likely to be called 40% of the time, 2/3 pot bet likely to be called 50% of the time, 1/2 pot bet likely to be called 60%. These are based on a $3000 pot All-in = Villain has $7550 left you have him covered 20% $7750 = $1550. Pot size bet $3000 40% = $1200 2/3 pot bet $2000 50% = $1000 1/2 pot bet $1500 60% = $900 Villain is also going to consider your image when deciding to call, you may need to adjust these % depending on that perception. On these % you are 3 time more likely to get called with a 1/2 pot bet and you may bring the other player into the action and double your long term expectation. So I’m for betting 1/2 or 2/3 the pot. All-in would defiantly scare others away.
Re: NL Hold'em in Gold Coast (Cash game) 2009 09 09 09:50 amCasino $2.5/$5 blinds 10 handed from $200 - $500max buy-in, only 4 tables open during the busy period. Typical casino mix of players from short stack pusher to deep stack small ball, mixed in with beginners, drunks semi professional players. They have a waiting list you need to get your name on it, sometimes takes hours before you get called to a table. Sin City at Seagulls Tweed Heads, see their posts on this forum. There are other home games available they visit this forum often they may wish to post their details.
Re: Opening Night at Seagulls hugely successful 2009 08 17 03:31 pmSome personal observations on opening night. The lighting could be improved or the cards need to be changed, You need a timer for the breaks, so people know when they should be seated, the laptop recording the blind levels set in a position everone can see. The noise level in this small enclosure is a problem. Staff to clear the empty glass and bottles or an area to put them other than on the floor should be considered. Some rules about non-participants wandering around the tables could also be considered. Other than that, congratulations on a successful night , I will be back.
| 2009 08 13 01:57 pm Steeling on the button, you need cards with some show down value QT 9T 9Q J9, 67 8J etc, The BB is pushing a wide rang against a button raise. If your playing S&G at pacific poker be prepared to wait 20 min to fill 1 table. | |
| 2009 08 07 12:17 pm I’m for RR pre to find out where I am, isolate MP because you are not going to improve often enough to play top pair against multiple players, don’t give the blinds value to call. MP rasing range for a big stack can be wide, QQ crushing most this range. My pre flop plan would be to Isolate the raiser, consider folding to a RR, if called and no over card comes or a flop such as this, make two thirds to a pot size bet. I can only think that the reason he showed his pocket K’s was because he is raising light at other times. | |

Re: Sin City Seagulls. Sin City Poker Rooms @ Seagulls Club, Tweed Heads to open soon 2009 07 14 09:38 amAdvise from Sin City Admin please. There is a rumour floating around that the fee structure is set at 10% this is the understandable part, then an additional 10% on winnings for GST. Surely that can’t be correct and it is only an additional 10% GST on the fee structure.
Re: Sin City Seagulls. Sin City Poker Rooms @ Seagulls Club, Tweed Heads to open soon 2009 07 01 03:29 pmGood good, keep us posted looking forward to this
| 2009 06 25 12:27 pm I think you find, if you are a professional gambler no matter what your gamble, you are taxable. To the average Joe ATO classes winnings as windfalls and no tax is payable no matter what you win, lotto, horse racing, poker etc. This is for the obvious reason, if everyone had to pay tax everyone could claim expenses as a tax deduction, lotto tickets, gambling losses, taxi fees to races etc would become a tax deduction. There would be a lot more deductions than tax benefits to the government. However if you derive your income from gambling as a professional gambler as defined in the Tax Act, under the self assessment criteria you should be registered to pay tax, associated costs are then and only then deductible. If as a professional you choose not to be registered, someone who you just sucked out on may call the ATO and make a complaint, then you will be the subject of a tax audit. Anyone who knows anything about a tax audit and the penalties would not risk it. | |
Re: Brisbane Poker Club ??????????? 2009 06 18 09:28 amI for one appreciate Aashy’s comments, his point being that he should be informed. I think Brisbane Poker Club have found a good way to allow the organisation behind the game a way to be remunerated without breaching Qld law. I am ignorant as to the articles of the club and why it is set-up the way it is with ATD but I am sure there is a good explanation, Aashy’s comments may bring them out. I have been interested in attending some of their tournaments and nothing I have read so far would deter me from that.
